Two Weeks Out
Jan 02, 2010
Well, I am 2 weeks out as of tomorrow from gastric bypass surgery. I have started to excercise but I am not aloud to lift over 15 lbs for a month so I have only been walking on my treadmill. I feel pretty good overall right now. My steri-strips are coming off slowly but surely and revealing some very small incisions that are nicely scabbed over and seem to be healing well. I have been on pureed foods since I left the hospital and will remain on them until I see my surgeon on 01/21/10. At that point I should be switched to soft foods and i can't wait!!!! I will be nice to be returning to something slightly resembling normal. Also i should be released to normal activity at that time as well, so I should be able to lift again. That means that i will only be on lift restriction for 1 day of clinicals only. YAY!!!!
Surgery
Dec 24, 2009
I had my surgery on the 21st and I had an uneventful surgery. When I came out of surgery I was only having moderate pain and was able to walk as soon as they took me up to my hospital room. Since then I have had some pain but nothing excrutiating. I fell pretty good as of now. I have been taking pain meds but usually not until I start feeling sore. I have also been tolerating the pureed foods that I have been eating. I am having trouble knowing when I am full because I dont ever feel hungry. Hopefully that problem will correct itself. I am still learning though.

The Big Day Is Close at Hand
Dec 20, 2009
Tomorrow morning is my surgery. I am a bundle of nurves right now. I am excited that the day is finally here after almost a year of going through hoops to get this surgery. I honestly cant wait until I am able to start eating pureed foods on wednesday. I am so hungry right now. Oh, well, it could be worse. I have lost 8 lbs and a total of 16 inches since I weighed in at the surgeon's office the last time. I can't wait to lose more!!!

Got My Date!!!!!
Nov 22, 2009
I went back to the dietician on November the 11th and got the go ahead from her for the surgery. The surgeon's office filed my insurance on the 16th. I called my insurance on the 18th and was told that I was approved for surgery. On the 19th I scheduled my pre-op and my surgery. My pre-op is on Decmber 1st at 8:20 am and my surgery date is the 21st of December. I will start my pre-op shake diet probably on the 7th of December and will have to do that for 2 weeks. I am starting to get excited as I have about 30 days left until my surgery.

The Dietician Seems to Be Making My Life Hard
Nov 06, 2009
Well since I have last posted I went to the nutrition class and paid 305 dollars to see a dietician that only my surgeon is requiring me to see. Anyway my 1st appointment with her was on the 27th of October and after that the surgeons office was supposed to file my insurance but when I got there she told me that I was supposed to eat like after the surgery and that this was wrong and that was wrong and this girl was maybe 21 years old and had never been fat a day in her life. Needless to to day she told me that i need to come back in 2 weeks and if everything looks good then then they will file my insurance. So now I have to pay 32 dollars on top of the 305 she just got from me. My appointment is on Novermber 11th. Hopefully this time they will file my insurance.

Consultation Day
Sep 24, 2009
Today I had my consultation with Dr. J. Ryland Scott. He seemed very warm and compassionate as did his staff. Everyone at his clinic was very nice and professional and took the time to answer my questions. All I have left to do before they file with my insurance is to get a letter from my psychiatrist and I have to go to a nutrition class on October 8th and I also have to meet with the dietitian for an individual bariatric evaluation. Hopefully I will have that done by the middle of October. I am just glad that I am almost done with this part and am still crossing my fingers for the insurance to approve.

Turned Down But It's OK
Sep 11, 2009
Well I got turned down in January because I was 2 pounds less than the 100 pounds over the ideal weight. It is now September. I have decided to start the process over again with a different surgeon. I am glad too because this surgeon seems like a much better person and more of a competent person than the last one. This time I am going to go for gastric bypass. (That is how much faith I have in this guy.) I am really hoping that this time I can actually get the surgery. If nothing else it is worth trying.

Sometimes More Is Less
Nov 03, 2008
I weighed in today. I have gained 9 pounds on the scale at the surgeon's office. My weight on that scale is 225.5 pounds and I am 5'2" so I within 100 pounds over a healthy weight for my height. That means that I should have no problem getting approved by Tricare for Lap-Band surgery. All I have left to do is my nutrition consult and my psychological evaluation. My psychological evaluation I will be able to get tomorrow and my nutrition consult is onNovember 10.
I May Not Be Fat Enough?!
Oct 28, 2008
I went to my consult today and found out that I weigh 10 pounds less than my PCM's scale and my own home scale. I am also only a BMI of 39.0. I am so afraid that my insurance won't cover my surgery right now. I would have to gain at least 10 pounds to even have the correct BMI. This is embarrassing! I'm fat but not fat enough for my insurance's standards even though I have a co-morbidity. This is just not right! How can you be fat but not fat enough?! Anyway I'll blog more when I find out for sure from my insurance company.
Seminar
Oct 19, 2008
I went to a seminar on 10/14/08 and I learned a few things about what is expected for insurance purposes and after surgery. I have also set up an appointment for my consultation with Dr. Rose. It will be on 10/28/08. I am very excited and also kinda nervous. I really hope I meet all of my insurance requirements. Anyway, I'll post more later.
