Consultation
Apr 20, 2009
Had my consultation with Dr. Schmitt today, and everything went well. He said everything was a go with him and sent me to the coordinator. She gave me a list of things that I needed to get and have done. I already had all of the clearance letters from my doctors, so now all I need to do is blood work, psych visit, nutritionist. I weighed less than what I thought. So, I will be going with their scales. I am going on vacation this Sunday to Biloxi, MS to gamble. Well all I do is the slots. We will be gone a week. I hope to have some kind of answer about insurance approval when I get back. I will keep you posted.

So Excited!!!
Apr 18, 2009
I went today to Birmingham for my seminar. I have waited for this day, it seems like a decade. It was a 1 1/2 hour drive, but well worth it. Dr. Schmitt was the doctor that did the presentation. I got to make my appointment to have my consultation with him this coming Monday 04/21/09. Can you believe it? I want this to get started, the sooner the better. My husband and I stayed for the support group that was a few hours later. That was very interesting. We got to try samples of the different protein drinks and they were pretty good. I know that this can be a long drawn out process, but just taking that first step makes me feel like, I don't know it's hard to describe. I know that you all probably think that I'm being ridiculous, but I am so excited!! Will write more later.

New Doctor, Different State
Apr 02, 2009
Well, it has been bothering me about having to drive 5 hours to SC to have my WLS> So, I began searching for another doctor. It has been a nightmare trying to find a doctor that takes Wellcare/Medicare. I finally found one in Birmingham, AL. That is only 2 hours instead of the 5 hours to SC. This doctors name is Dr. Schmit. I will be going to the next seminar on April 18th. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nothing changes before then.

Getting info together
Mar 25, 2009
I have gotten all of my clearance letters except for the psychologist. I will be making an appointment for that one soon. The hardest part about the whole think is or was finding a physican that would take my Wellcare/Medicare insurance. I was told when I applied for the Medicare approved health plan (Wellcare), that "if the doctor accepts Medicare they will accept the Wellcare plan". I found out real fast that most doctors do not take it. Found one in SC and go to seminar 4/6. Can't wait!
