This is such a tragic story. I really believe that everyone having surgery should have a sleep study done before they do. My husband is having WLS in a few months. I made every sure that his Doctor and I were on the same page about this. Most people who HAVE Sleep Apnea don't even know they have it. I am not overweight and I have Sleep Apnea. I now have a CPAP I must wear at night. I had NO idea of what it even was. What I did know was that I never felt rested. Even after I thought I'd had a good nights rest. Often I would wake with a headache. A lot of times I would wake an feel my mind was in a fog. Also, if you snore and your partner notices you stop and start again. Those are all signs of Sleep Apnea. Please do not think it is from being overweight that you feel this way. Sleep Apnea is very dangerous when it goes undetected. A Sleep Study is painless.

Susan, thank you so much for updating us on Ginger in the way that you did. I am pre-op and will make sure that my future doc pays special care to my sleep apnea symptoms. Being a patient, I just seem to trust that a doc and his staff would automatically take this sort of precautions in people who are morbidly obese. Apparently not. I should not be so quick to hand out trust in that fashion. This memorial board has helped me learn a lot about the medical community. I'm deeply moved by your words about your beautiful friend. Thank God for you, Ginger, and the whole OH community. Please know that all of our hearts are with her. --Sandra Field

Do not stand at my grave and weep, "I am not there, I do not sleep." I am thousand winds that blow; "I am the diamond glints on the snow, "I am the sunlight on ripened grains; "I am the gentle autumn's rain. "When you awake in the morning's hush, "I am the swift uplifting rush "Of the quiet birds in circled flight. "I am the soft star that shines at night." Do not stand at my grave and cry. "I am not there; I did not die AuthorUnknown-kristi

Thank you for sharing Ginger's story with us. I am profoundly moved by it. Eternal rest grant unto Ginger, O Lord, and may your perpetual light shine upon her face. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this story and taking the time to explain the risks with regard to sleep apnea. I will DEFINITELY get properly diagnosed before any surgery dates are even discussed. I thank you so very, very much for the warning. My heart goes out to Ginger and all who needlessly suffer and die from complications due to WLS.

Thank you for telling the story of your dear friend. I am so sorry that she did not have the chance to live as a healthy woman following her surgery. I had the surgery in July of this year, and pray for a healthy life, with no complications, but, errors are made, and precious lives are lost. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your friend Ginger. Lori C (Long Beach CA)

Hi Susan, Thank you EVER so much for your sweet post on the memorial page for Diane T. I couldn't find your email in Ginger's profile anywhere so I hope you come here to read this. I am so sorry for the loss of your best friend. We have a lot in common, my friend, and it's very unfortunate that it is the loss of someone so dear to us. I hope that Ginger & Diane are *high-fiving* us for supporting each other in our loss. We will always love & miss them. Gone but never ever forgotten. Please email me if you see this. Hi. I wish to express my deepest sympathy to you and Ginger's family. May GOD bless her sweet soul. I am considering having the RNY surgery but I am becoming quite scared after reading how so many things can go wrong. I'm sure Ginger was a wonderful woman and she definitely deserved much more than the lousy care that she received at that hospital.I know there's nothing more that I can say to you except that I will keep you and Ginger in my prayers. GOD bless you.
