Hi. I'm Angie. I am a 32-year old stay-at-home mom to two great little girls. I have been married for almost 10-years. For most of my adult life, I was not obese. I usually weighed around 165-170. That was still overweight, but not terribly. I was never really heavy until I became pregnant with my first daughter. I gained about 40 pounds with my first and 40 more with my second. So I've been carrying around this weight for 6-years now.
I have been able to lose 30 pounds or so, but hit a plateau and always regain what I lost. My body seems to sit around 250. I have been miserable at this weight. In addition, my joints and back are starting to ache. I felt I was desparate so I started looking into weight loss surgery, but RNY terrified me...but I never gave up on the idea. Finally, this fall I stumbled across information on the Adjustable Gastric Band. After reading about this surgery, I knew it was the answer for me. And then I found out that my insurance was covering this surgery...MOST of the time.
Once I decided on the surgery, the process has been fairly easy for me. I made an appointment with Dr. Hogg and went in 2-weeks later. He said I appear to be an excellent candidate for the surgery. So over the next week, I have appointments for a gallbladder ultrasound, bloodwork, dietician and psychologist. He has tentatively put me down for January 9th surgery, but that is pending my insurance's approval. They won't put in the paperwork until 12/29/03, since that is when Tricare no longer requires a non-availability (according to a benefits rep). So the process will be easier without needing this non-av. form. Wish me luck!! I am so excited and anxious. I'm so thankful that everything is falling into place.
