Post-Op Update 7/6/08

Jul 06, 2008

Hey! Had trouble getting my blog to open correctly or something.  I would show my profile but not my add options, CRAZY!  Well, I'm able to now, strange but true...  It's going good since surgery.  Hubby had to go in to the clinic to get some fluid out of his band.  It made him feel like he had an air bubble with everything he ate or drank.  That was done on June 31st and he said it was fast and easy (didn't hurt having the needle in his gut).  Since surgery on June 25th to June 31st he lost 25lbs,,,WOW!  I went to my family doctor to get my yearly exam and medicine review and they looked at the chart for weight, then said I lost 25lbs since I was in last.  Followed by the question "How did I do it"?  Without looking at the notes of course.  I let them know that I was post-op for lap-band.  Then that's when she said, usually it's 6-12 months before anyone gets a surgery date; I didn't figure you had it done already since it was a couple of months ago when you were in for your initial consult.  She was very encouraging and wanted details of surgery and how I felt.  At that visit according to my weight and what I was the day of surgery, I lost 13Lbs.  I am feeling great.  It's given me what I have been looking for, to have the feeling of hunger for every meal and the feeling of being full too!  We go July 7th for our post-op check-up, so I will let you know how things are going.  Take care everyone...if you just stumbled across my profile don't hesitate to contact me.

POST-OP Day one 6/26/08

Jun 26, 2008

Yesterday was the big day for Hubby and I!!! He went first and then someone else was next, then me...  The staff made sure we got to see each other when he got to recovery, while I was in prep.  Went very well, we are up and about.  Barix Clinic was wonderful, just as their TV ads and web site say.  Dr. Nunn is outstanding too!  I felt really confident in the fact that he founded the Barix Clinic and he performed WLS on both of his parents.  The staff was great, they didn't waste any time, when they went to do something for you they returned promptly.  We didn't have to stay overnight.  Registration for hubby was at 7:30 am and mine was at 10:00 am, that is 2 hours before our surgery times.  We were released about 7-7:30 pm.  We had to use the bathroom, eat, and get our insturctions.  Hubby was way ahead of me, he had all of that done by the time I got to the room, hubby asked for us to have the same room and they arranged it.  They were wonderful!  Dr. Nunn changed our diet too, he said he does that a lot.  We only have to be on full liquids until 6/27/08, then go to pereed foods until our check up on July 7th, he will determine then if we go to regular foods or stay of pereed a bit longer.  Both of us are really excited about having Lap-band done and it hasn't been as bad as some have said.  I guess it's all about having the right team behind you.  Still hoping the best for those of you waiting for a date.  Later Tonia

PAT's (TESTING) Today 6/10/08

Had testing and the nutrition class.  It went better for me than for my husband, they tried taking blood at 6 sites and only hit 2 of them.  He had to go through the blood work twice since they had to double check his clotting ability.  They were going to send his 2nd set of blood work to UofM then they went on to cut his arm to watch and time how it would clot.  Normal is from 2-9 minutes, he was ok at 3 minutes and was given the ok for surgery.  Then at the end of our day a doctor that assists in testings and authorizing the surgery said that they needed to change our surgery date.  It was originally June 27th and now it is June 25th, hubby is at 7:30 am and I am at 10:00 am.  Hubby is nervous and I'm excited, strange how that worked.  I'll be on as soon as possible to update how things were the day of surgery and how we are doing.  Best of luck to all of you that are jumping through hoops to get a date and for those of you that are dealing with surgery or post op.  Here's to the rest of our new healthy-happy lives!

The Ultimate News!!! 5/22/08

May 22, 2008

Hey had a problem with my online and my information didn't save to my Blog.  I wanted to make sure I tried it again today.  I got my call 1-1/2 weeks ago that my hubby and I were approved for our Lap-Band.  We could have had it done as early as May 30th, but we wanted to wait until the kids were out of school.  So our big day is June 27th, with testings done on June 10th.  I am so amazed that the insurance has processed this so fast, under a week! WOW!  Way to go BCBS!  I know from what I've hear and read that it's not this easy, so I can only hope that those of you in waiting keep your chin up.  I wish that things go as smoothly as possible for you all.

Happy Mother's Day All! 5/11/08

May 10, 2008

On Friday I was busy and couldn't post my news.  I had a message to call the Barix Insurance Cooridenator.  I did and found out that my hubby and I were approved.  We knew that we had met the criteria of our insurance and just had to go through the motions of the paperwork.  Well, they told me that they would forward this information to Dr. Nunn's staff so the pre-op testing and surgery date could be set scheduled.  They went on to say that once the office recieves the information we should get a call within 5 to 7 days.  WOW!  We are ready... To top it off, next summer is our 10th wedding anniversary.  We want to have a party and renew our vows, Renaissance Style.  Since we will have our new life style, a better body and feel good about ourselves then we can be more excited.  There is a Renaissance Faire her in town every summer, so we have 2 to work with in finding our outfits for that day.  We want to try to have a theme party if we can.  I have a vision of decorations and food, to make it better we will have a new lifestyle and body so we can have great outfits that day.
Maybe I'll treat myself to a hair design from the Faire if I meet my goal weights and grow my hair long enough by then.  I'm so happy to have gotten that news and wish everyone else all the best with their goals and surgery dates.  Take care all!

Updated info 5/1/08

My hubby had his 2nd part of the Psych. Eval done on Monday and he is good to go for the surgery too!  He is so happy to know that he will be doing this with me.  Today is hubby's quit date for smoking.  He has also stated to the family that after any type of pop that is in the house is gone, it's gone and we are not getting any more, same for milk-when the 2% is gone and FF is left we will only buy more FF milk.  WOW!!!  I thought I was going to fight tooth and nail to get him to switch to water and FF milk.  I don't have a problem with either one, but hubby and a couple of kids do.  Dr. Nunn's office called today to ask if we needed any assistance getting our EKG and Pysch. Eval completed.  Tried calling them back but I guess I was a few minutes past office hours and will try them tomorrow to let them know I have a copy of the EKG's and the Evals should be faxed or being faxed as we speak.  I will give them the phone number to make contact for the Pyschs just to make sure they get them.  I am so stoked about coming this far already and having my family asking when the upcoming date is and really supporting us.  I have a great family, but they haven't been the kind to fix weight with surgery.  They figure "you didn't need surgery to put it on, you don't need surgery to take it off".  They are the ones that don't exercise at all nor do they diet or watch what they eat.  So it's easy for them to say.  I'd like to thank them for not using those negative tones with us.

Part 2 Pysch. Eval 4/24/08

Apr 26, 2008

I couldn't get the site to save my post on Thursday, so here it is.

Well, it's a go!!!  Had my consult with the Pysch today.  He didn't see any indications that would hold me back from doing the surgery.  The doctor said he would get the report made out and sent in and wished me the best with the surgery.  He also stated that I had chosen a great place to have the procedure done.  BARIX-CLINIC!!!  He thought the next best one was in Flint @ Hurley Hospital.  Just in case you'd like another opinion from an outsider that is familiar with this stuff.  Oh, my hubby went Thursday for his first part of the test, he thought it was strange too.  He goes back on Monday to meet with the doctor.  We were thinking of having the surgery the same day or within days apart, not sure yet.  I'd like to send out my hopes and wishes to everyone else that is trying to get things in order to have their surgeries...that it goes smoothly too!  Take care all...

Pysch.Eval Day oh my! 4/22/08

Apr 22, 2008

Today was the first session for my pysch eval it was weird, a 567 question test.  I think there were about 6 of them that asked if I loved my mother or father.  Strange!  Well it took about 2 hours to complete it, I had to sit,stand,sit,rock...not easy on the back and hip since I have problems with those.  On Thursday I go in to meet the Dr. and go over the test, he will ask me more questions and go over any concerns.  Also, Thursday my hubby takes his computer portion of the test and goes back on Monday to finish up.  After that we have them send the results to Barix and Dr. Nunn's staff will get the info to the insurance company.  Then it's wait time.  Dr. Nunn said at the consult we should be getting a surgery date within 60 days.

Oh! NOTE to those who have to have a pysch eval, shop around.  This one place accepts my insurance and was going to bill them for 2 units of care,  I have to play my co-pay of $15, not a problem.  Then they came off with there is also a charge of $75 that is not charged to the insurance for writing the report for your doctor.  Heck if that's the case why don't I just pay for the whole visit... I called around, found someone and it's only going to be my co-pay.  With both my husband and I having this done it would of cost $180 plus the cost of gas to drive about 50 mile/round trip and hubby would have to take time off of work to go.  The place I found was only a few minutes away from home.  Good luck to those who are are searching.

Inspiration and support 4/18/08

Apr 18, 2008

I have started my journey through the begining of the tests, but have not really let my extended family in on what I am doing.  Well, today I changed that, at first I wasn't going to tell, so I didn't have to listen to their negative comments.  My cousin was going to do this a few years ago and she was the newest gossip.  I was shocked that I didn't hear anything negative from anyone so far.  I informed them of everything and didn't let them get a word in edgewise, until I was finished with what I had to say.  One aunt has offered to watch our 4 children when needed, another aunt offered to come to the hospital the day of surgery, and one aunt wants to know if my hospital accepts her insurance so she can look into having surgery.  This isn't just a big step for me, it's a big step for my family.  I was taken completely by surprise on all that I heard.  Maybe it was because I did my research and had a bunch of knowledge to dump on them when I told them of mine and my husbands plans.  Just in case you have had your surgery in Michigan, could you share what hospitals accept Blue Care Network?  I'm looking for this info for my aunt, I have found some on the net, but not much.  Thanks and take care all!

Tests 4/17/08

Apr 16, 2008

This morning I went to have my EKG done.  The nurse that did the test said that it looked perfectly normal to her and would put it in front of the doctor to review and sign.  Then I could pick it up or they would send it to Barix Clinic.  One test down, one to go before having the pre-opt testing at Barix.  The next one I have to do is the phsych. evaluation, I'm waiting for a call back for a date.  Things are going pretty smooth so far...
