I am interested to know did anyone use any creams or ointments to prepare there skin prior to plastic surgery ?
Also if you did how do you think it helped? AND WHAT DID YOU USE .
I know we all talk about after care of incision lines .Also talk about diet and exercise but I was wondering about topical creams before surgery......
Many thanks

Hi Anissa,

While my doc didn't mention anything about skin prep, I figured it certainly couldn't hurt.  I had on hand Phytomer Stretch Mark cream which is predominently a collagen booster.  I used it a few times a week for the three weeks prior to my surgery.  Especially for this time of year, I thought it might make a difference to have the skin in the best condition (moisture, elasticity, etc.) as it could be.  I don't have any proof that it made a difference.  But, I do know that my incisions and the surrounding skin look wonderful! Maybe that's just my fantastic surgeon?   Perhaps your doc could tell you?

Best wishes for your surgery...

Terri - where did you find the cream you used?  I'm 2 weeks pre-op and would love to give it a try.

I use the Phytomer skin care line.  I order it from www.spalook.com  I don't think you can buy it in stores, but some spas have it.  I got hooked on it after I had a facial at Relache Spa at the Gaylord Hotels.  It's pricey at Spalook and outrageous at the spas, but the stuff really works, so it's worth it to me.

Oh - thanks!  I had a "spa day" at the Relache Spa - it was glorious!!!

I will check it out - and a far as I'm concerned if it helps me heal better, its well worth the cost.

Hi Anissa,
I just had my consult for upcoming plastics. My surgeon strongly recommends the use of a supplement called Juice Plus. This is a dietary supplement that has the equivalent nutrient value of 46 fruits and veggies with antioxidants, probiotics and digestive enzymes. There are the super fruits Acai, Pomegranate, Mangosteen and Noni plus lots of veggies. He said that because of the RNY malabsorbtion issues, and the limited "food" intake that we have we do not get all of these important nutrients from just a multivitamin. He would like me to be on these for a few months before having surgery. SAMS club carries a brand called JuiceFestiv that is around 25$ for a 2 month supply. You take two veggie caps and 2 fruit caps daily.

While taking care of our skin on the outside is important, giving it optimal nutrition to heal is just as important. Of course, this is just MHO ,

I use the belly balm sold HEREWe got to sample it at a bariatric support group meeting.  The doctors sell it in their offices much cheaper than this website.  I love it.

Anissa, if I were you I would be very careful with this. There are some ingredients (Vitamin E is one of them) that are contra-indicated for plastic surgery as they interfere with healing. Instead of relying on advice here, I think it is much wiser to ask your surgeon, and be sure to run anything topical that you are using by him/her.

Also, I would be wary of expensive creams -- for instance, if you were getting a tummy tuck, you might be using a lot of cream on an area that is just going to be excised anyway...so the cream used in that area would be wasted.

Just my two cents.

Good luck with your surgery.
