New incentive for me....
Good Sunday Everyone,
I was mainly using my wt scale to track my progress in wl but I dug out my tape measure ( haven't used it in years.) I took body measurements neck to ankle...wow!!
When did I get sooooooo big? I know what the scale has been saying but OMG my waist is huge!!! I remember in my 20's having a 26in waist....certainly not now! 45"!!!! this is hard for me to share but I feel I need to as much as I need to say "I'm obese"! There, I said it. I decided to take my measurements before surgery so I can take new measurements each month after surgery to compare...if the scale doesn't move for a few weeks, then the tape measure should. I have lost 1-2 sizes since April adopting the post-op lifestyle with larger portions (still have my appetite). I've slowed down in wt loss but this is a real kick in the behind to keep focused. Gee, my thigh is as big as my waist used to be. One more reason to continue on this journey to improved health and happiness.
Thanks for listening Everyone, confession time is over.

Alice:
Too bad you didn't measure when you started ... you would have seen a change in it now. I'll bet it's a big difference already if you've lost a couple of sizes. Good for you in adding the measurements, though, for incentives ... they do that at the bariatric center I went to ... measured bust, waist, hips when you start along with what the scale says ... then do it again at yearly physicals to chart your progress. Once you have your surgery, you will see big changes very quickly.

Unfortunately, I didn't take my measurements or a good before picture. I sure wish I did. However, I will NOT gain back what I lost just for a picture or measurements. LOL I sure can tell by my clothes I have lost quite a bit of weight. I still have about 40 lbs to go but feel so much better now. Oh yes, I feel so much better.
My only frustration is to see myself in a mirror or reflection and see the hair loss and the saggy face. I know the hair is on its way back but in the meantime I think it looks funny.
Alice, you will be thrilled at the size lost after surgery. My scale lies... it has always lied. Taking the measurements is a great way to see the loss. Best wishes on your journey Millie

Millie,
I didn't take mine before RNY either, but I did a couple of months later and was still pleased to see the difference. You sound like me....my hair is soooooo thin and my skin is baggy and I look OLD!!!
but......it is a pretty good trade off I think. Hopefully, my hair will start to grow back and I will get used to how my face looks now.
Take Care,
Cheryl

Hi Alice,
I had to respond to your post because I did the same thing today, discovering a 45 inch waist. GEEZ. I've also been looking at myself naked in a full length mirror and doing affirmations ala Louise Hay. Something like 'I'm sorry I let you get so obese but I'm going to take good care of you now because I love you.' My surgery is scheduled for 10/17/08. I'll see ya on the losing side soon.
