Hello,
I was so grategul for everybody who welcomed me to this site yesterday. I am going shopping today for my first protein powder. Any suggestions? Money is short in my life. What would be a low cost power that is the best for the money? Also, Can you mix the powder with milk? I understand that milk can sometimes not be tolerated after surgery.

Good Morning Nancy!

Many people have a problem with dairy after surgery. So many become lactose intolerant.

I never use protein powders but the one time I did I bought GNC brand....unflavored.....it wasn't bad but I gave it away. It isn't too expensive. Many people use Walmart Whey Protein....that is less expensive yet. Good luck....maybe someone else will have a good idea for you.

Hugs, connie d

Foods high in protein.....

refied beans w/ cheese
tuna
chili w/ cheese  (very thick!!)
beef
chicken
pork
fish/seafood
cheese
cottage cheese
eggs w/ cheese

On and on it goes. I have never not gotten in my protein. Be creative!!
Protein first and then a few veggies or fruit.
I don't do pasta, rice,  bread, and only occasionally a bite or two of potatoe.
My sandwiches are done in lettuce wraps.

Hugs....connie d

One thing to remember is that your taste will change after surgery. Do not buy a lot  because chances are you won't like it.

Some of the online stores sell samples, I suggest you order some of those to try after your surgery.

Mixing...well, you can mix them with most anything. I always use water or crystal light type liquids. The only milk I do is the half and half I put in my coffee.....

Good luck on your quest for protein powder. There are thousands to  choose from...I know, we use to be in the Nutrition business......

I ahve been searching powders on line and I found a couple of them that provided 20 grams a serving that wasn't too expensive. I did order  some samples too. I know I have a long wait yet but I want to be ready. Thanks. Nancy
