Aside from calories, what is the reason you can't have potatoes, rice, pasta and bread foods post-surgery if you were to eat small portions?

those carby items you mentioned start turning into pure sugar as soon as they hit your mouth, where digestion starts. They are instantly absorbed into your blood stream for quick energy by the body. As long as there is this quick readily available sugar ,free floating in your blood stream, your body will not break down your stored fat, which is what causes weight loss.
Eating smaller amounts really doesn't make a difference. Sugar hots, like this, cause an insulin smile which then causes the body to store some of that sugar as more fat.
They are high in bad carbs..bad carbs = fat. You can have good carbs but don't go over 50 per day...and that's hard!
They are also bulky foods that with digestive juices swell in your pouch and leave no room for protein.
I am having surgery on Tuesday (4 days, yikes) and am currently on the 2 week pre-surgery diet. The first week I lost 12 lbs. The 2nd week I didn't stick to all liquids but kept my calories way down and somehow gained 3 lbs. I had a weigh in and the doctor was not pleased and added another week and even rescheduled my surgery because I am high risk to begin with. Yesterday I had the week 3 of the diet and really stuck to all liquids and lost 19 lbs. I'm sticking to it for the next few days and then it's surgery day. BTW, How are you doing since your surgery?

Has anyone tried either of these with regards to making protein drinks taste better? I was thinking that perhaps I could add sugar free hot chocolate to the vanilla or chocolate protein drink and make a milky hot chocolate OR what about making some of the sugar free pudding and using the protein drink in place of milk or 1/2 of each? Do you think you can heat protein drinks? If so, there could be a combination of puddings you do like vanilla protein drink with strawberry or lemon pudding.
Also, I read in here about someone using Torani flavored syrups. Can anyone else who may have tried comment on the taste and if you like it some of the combinations you used. I went to the Torani site and the sugar free flavors and variety of possible combinations is super tempting.
Thanks in advance,
Alyssa
Thanks same to you. I feel a lot better, since I'm drinking protein daily... Still some leg cramp on and off. I'm search for new favor of protein to keep me up with it better... Let keep in touch to encourage each other. We can do better... Have a wonderful evening...

Hey, our newest trick is to mix the powder into sugar free jello and make jigglers. They go down so easy!
Have you tried a variety? Some taste better than others, genuinely.
Unfortunately, there is no pill you can take, but there are protein bars and such that can help you and other forms of protein that aren't dairy based. It really depends on you though. I see a lot of people doing Premier Protein.
actually, there are proton pills available. With only about 2 gems of protein per capsule, one would have to take about 100 a day to get what we need. Not really doable.
