Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have been over weight as far as I can remember, all of my life. I have struggled without much success with looseing weight. In January 2005 my new years resolution at 370 pounds was to go on a diet and begin exercising. As i begin to walk I started to have chest flutters. So my wife made an appointment for me to go and get a physical before continued. Little did I know that visit to my Dr. would change my life forever. It was this visit that I would find out that my Blood pressure was through the roof (240/190) which would take 5 different medications to control. The reason for the flutters was because my heart was enlarged due to my blood pressure. I would also be diagnosed with type II diabetes, which would take 3 additional meds to control. Not to forget the 1 for my cholesterol.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being over weight for me first was poor health. Next would be not being able to run and play with my three children. Not wanting to go places and do things because of people looking and staring. Or having to worry whether or not I would be able to sit in chairs at certain places and if they would hold me. Wondering how far I was going to have to walk from the parking lot and if I was going to make it.
