Question:
Does anyone know anything good to take for menstrual cramps after surgery?

I am 3 months post-op and experience very bad menstrual cramps every month. Before surgery I was able to take motrin or aleve but, now that I am post-op I was told that I can only take Tylenol or Acetominophin. They both do absolutely nothing for my cramps. I was wondering if anyone could suggest anything else that I could take. I hate to endure this pain every month but, am afraid to take anything that might hurt me in the long run. Any help would be greatly appreciated.    — Jodie R. (posted on March 7, 2000)

See your doctor and explain the situation. You might be about to take something like Vicodin, which has codiene and a tylenol-like medication. I also recommend a good orgasm for menstrual cramps. And don't forget the old fashioned belly massage and heating pad....good luck!

I was put on a low dose of birth control pills. It has made a dramatic difference on how I feel each month. Also, you can get a muscle relaxers in liquid form.

My cramps have worsened in the past few years following my tubal ligation in 1996 and my doc recently prescribed Ultram in addition to the Anaprox I've been on forever. It has made a TREMENDOUS difference for me. Good luck!

I will add one more suggestion to the list. I now take celebrex (I was an advil user prior to surgery). It helps if you have a drug card through your insurance, because this is still an expensive drug.
