It's safe. I've colored my hair a few times since surgery in February and it hasn't affected the loss one way or the other.

I colored my hair to replenish the shine and I am 7 weeks post op. It did my hair good. But I HIGHLY recommend that you buy a really good shampoo and conditioner. It's worth the extra bucks!!!!!

I have found that washing my hair with vinegar after I use my regular shampoo in between coloring helps. It gives my hair the shine that I would get without using chemicals all the time. Hope that hopes

i am taking biotin vitamins and using biotin shampoo and conditioner. i am 6 weeks post op and have had highlights done. I think once the hair is grown out of the scalp, it doesn't matter what you do. Hair is actually dead cells. Taking care of the hair follicle is literally an inside job. eat your protein, drink your water, and be confident that the hair will grow back. Of course, if mine falls out I will be hysterical! Good luck.

I have colored my hair a few times since the surgery. I am still losing hair, but at least what hair is left is golden blonde--not gray!

I have to tell you that I am 7 weeks post-op this Wed. and I dyed my hair at 5 weeks. The roots were starting to show a little too much. I also started taking something called Nourishair (biotin) that I got from GNC and my hair right now looks better than it did before surgery. I was told that you don't lose your hair but than it breaks off thus giving the apprearance of losing it. Good Luck!!

I colored my hair at about 12 weeks post op and did just fine. In fact getting rid of the gray really helped me feel better about myself. I had lost about 40 pounds and people hadn't noticed. After I colored my hair it's like the light went on and people started noticing all kinds of things about me.

It's topical , go for it. Use a good conditioner and DO NOT EVER brush wet hair , use a comb. Coloring usually gives the hair more body.

By the way, i noticed that a couple of people were saying that hair breaks off rather than comes out so I have made it a point to look the last few days. Nope, mine is coming out at the root. It still has the little root piece attached. Darn. I was hoping I could use the hair strengthening products to slow it down. Oh, well. I guess I'll just have to wait it out :)

I am 17 weeks post op and have been losing my hair for over a month. It seems to getting worse instead of better. I have colored my hair one time with ok results. I used Loving care color rinse that washes out after 6 to 12 shampoo's. I figured since it has no ammonia or peroxide that it would be better for my hair. Funny thing is, its not the gray hair that is falling out but my natural color hairs!

there seem to be many opinions on hair loss. when i had my consult with dr newhoff he said that hair loss is caused by anesthesia & if u have had surgery before & never lost ur hair u wont lose any now. well i have had plenty of surgeries & have never lost one hair so i sure hope he's right.
