Question:
Where can I find a Bariatric Nutritionist?

I NEED HELP!! I asked this very question 2 years ago, and only two individuals responded. I thought I'd try again to get some feedback. I had a Laproscopic Proximal RNY on 9/3/02. I was doing real well for a very long time...at least up until being diagnosed with Liver Cancer back in October 2003. After that, my life became overwhelmed with so many things, I began going through an emotional roller coaster...Now, since all of that, I've gained a total of about 40 ponds back. No, I don't eat all day, I don't skip meals and I drink the required amount of water and then some EVERY DAY. I have, however, slowed down on my exercize because my knees hurt (due to the weight gain) and my motivation is 'nil' anymore. I also found out that now, as of 3/18/05, I have been diagnosed as having an "unspecified disorder of the thyroid" (ICD-9-CM) Code 246.9 I'm at a point now that I feel like a failure. Well, things have changed since then. I'm very much interested in finding a Nutritionist that is familiar, qualified and most importantly "specializes" in the healthy eating habits of the b    — yourdivaness (posted on April 23, 2005)

Hi, I'm sorry to hear of your situation. The only thing I can think of is to try calling one of the Barix Clinics...they have nutritionists on staff there, maybe if you explain your situation they will help you out. I'm pretty sure they have these clinics all over the place. Good luck to you and god bless.

You have had a very hard time of it and should not beat yourself up. That said my real recommendation is to go back to the basics. Start over with the diet from day one. My nutritionalist provided a book that started from day one after the surgery. I, for one hate exercise. I was in a very bad automobile accident...with damage to my left knee and right foot. I am 57 and have arthritis, but I bought an elleptical machine (easier on the knees than a treadmill), and try to do 45 minutes every other day. Sometimes this is done in three fifteen minute increments. There is also water exercise. Nobody can do this for you. It must come from yourself. My very best to you. Good luck with the new beginning.

I am surprised that your surgeon didn't have a connection with a Brariatric Weight Loss/Treatment Center with Nutritionist and support groups, etc. You didn't say where you are located. I am in Indiana and I go to St. Vincent's Bariatric Weight Loss Center of Excellence. They have 4 Registered Dieticians there, all of whom are wonderful. They also have support groups and exercise classes. If you are interested in more info, feel free to email me. I wish you the best and I am so sorry to hear about your medical problems. You will be in my prayers. Take care and don't be too hard on yourself.

Hi honey, wondered where ya been. Will be in Atlanta in June, BTW. So, is it THYROID or PARATHRYOID. 2 different animals. Providing there is not an actual tumor or disease process going on with the PTH, we can adjust it nutritionally, to a large degree.

To whomever it concerns (as far as who is responsible for posting our Questions & Answers) What happened to the rest of my post? Did I do something wrong for the reason the entire post wasn't included and stopped at "eating habits of the b?"...there was more of my post that was completely wiped out. Why was this done this way? I've seen longer posts than mine posted. Perhaps you werein a hurry? Let's be fair, okay? My questions are honest and sincere.
