Question:
Has anyone drank V-8 post-op and did it agree?

Yes. Its a way of my getting the vitamins of vegetables in without actually eatting them. And it hasn't so much as given me a burp! Enjoy, Linda

Made me dump the first 3 months, but many seem to have no problems with it at all.

I was on pureed foods the first 4 weeks post op, and just could not tolerate pureed vegetables. V-8 got me through that - and I liked it with a generous splash of tobassco sauce, and had no problems whatsoever with it!

I loved V-8, Snappy Tom and Spicy V-8 my first weeks post-op - my surgeon suggested them on my one-week post-op visit. I still love them! You can get awfully sick of sweet tastes (jello, juice, Crystal Lite, etc) and these made a big difference in getting fluids in. Good Luck!

I try to keep V-8 in my frig all the time. Since it is so hard to save any room for anything after I eat my protein, plus it is a great faster filler upper!

I was on a liquid diet for 8 weeks following my surgery and drank a lot of V-8. It tasted so wonderful to me after all the Crystal Lite I was drinking! I thought it would give me a horrible stomach ache but it didn't. I was really craving salty/sour stuff so I got the V8 that is flavored with lemon. I was also craving tomatoes for some reason (never really cared for them pre-surgery) so the V8 took care of that too. Funny thing is, I hated V8 before surgery. It's true what they say ... your tastes definitely change after surgery!

You are still so newly postop it may have been the acidity that got you. My dr recommends no citrus or tomato products for the first 6 weeks until you are fully healed. That said, I didn't see that and had tomato soup the first week postop. LOL The acidity didn't bother me, but I got dumping out of the way right off the bat . . . Apparently there was sugar in there!

Sometimes V-8 is no problem, but other times it causes an extremely uncomfortable pain in the middle of my chest. I haven't figured out why sometimes it's OK, and sometimes not--it doesn't seem to connect to anything. So, my advice is to drink it slowly in case it has the same affect on you.

I've been drinking V8 since I was 1 week post-op! I get the low sodium and drink 1 per day. I love it and thankfully have never had a problem.

I have been drinking V-8 since 4-6 weeks post-op and I really love it. Funny, because I remember not really liking it before WLS. Now, I have to have it at least once a day, especially with a little bit of lemon or lime juice and a splash of hot sauce. Yum =)~

My dietician told me yesterday for my 6 month check up to have all I wanted of V-8. Especially, if I don't eat enough veggies. This is the best way to get the much needed vits in. The added bonus, besides the liquid counts towards your daily allowance. Happy drinking! Lap 2/11/03..... -85 pounds

You do have to watch the sugar content in the V8 juice.I can only drink half a can at a time or else I dump on it.

V8 is about one of the ONLY things that first agreed with me after surgery ... I too have no problems with it and I like it ice-cold, so I put it in a shaker for a few minutes. Like a previous poster, I was told it could replace your veggies and count as a beverage.

I have been enjoying V8 with lemon since my second week. I never drank much before but I find it very refreshing now.
