As always call your surgeon first. Generally speaking if you have a bowel obstruction your abd. becomes bigger and harder, vomiting, nausea, no BMs, and pain in your belly. This is serious and needs medical/surgical attention at once! Blood in your "poop" can also be very serious or you could of had a small polyp or hemmorroid (sp) that could of bled and will not again. Regardless please call your surgeon as these are questions for him/her. Good luck. RNY 11/02 300/140ish (at my goal)

I had a small intestine blockage, just past where it was attached to my pouch. Major stomach cramps, inability to eat or drink, fatigue, and etc. caused me to seek out my surgeon to sent me back to the hospital for tests. A contrast xray gave a definitive answer.

Coral. If you bled so bad last night why did'nt you take a sample of stool (with blood) and go IMMEDIATELY to the ER??? I don't understand. Blood is telling you something is very wrong. ?????

Two weeks after surgery I vomited and had diarrhea for 12 straight hours....almost every 15 minutes...I couldnt believe how much and how often I vomited! I finally went to the ER and had emergency surgery after numerous tests. The scar tissue had completely sealed up my bowels. 4 days in the ICU and alot of prayers got me through it. It was way more difficult bouncing back than the initial surgery. Good luck and see your surgeon!--Adele

I ended up with a bowel obstruction after I had my tummy tuck in February. It was NO fun!!! Initially, I was just constipated. I was unable to have a bowel movement for about 13 days. At this point, my entire abdomen was totally distended (bulged out) and was painful to the touch. I started to spike a fever... then the nausea and vomiting started. It was horrible!! The pain was worse than anything I had ever experienced. If you feel that you have a bowel obstruction, do not play around. Go see your doctor or go to the ER. If they catch it in time, they can sometimes avoid having surgery. With me, I was able to have about 20 enemas and then Baam! I was able to go ... They had me all set to go into the operating room though. Had I not finally gone, I was only about 20 minutes away from major surgery. Take care.. and get better soon! Hugs, Kathie in Hawaii.. I had a bowel obstruction.I had Gastric Bypass on July 7,2004 and then on July 12,2004.I got real bad off with my stomach,I thought that it was gas pains and thought it was normal but what I thought was normal became a life-threathening situation. The pains were bad in all of my abodomen area, and everything that touch my {stomach} pouch food or liquid caused horrible pain...I went to the ER that night and Dr.Kramer had a CT scan done and around Midnight that night I was in surgery....My bowels had twisted and had the obstruction...Dr. Kramer along with the help of GOD brought me through...I was told that if I had waited until the next day to go to the hospital that there was a big chance that I would not made it...I was also told that this happening to me was 1 chance out of 300 so I happen to be that 1..this also slowed my recovery from my WLS...but I am doing great now....I hope I have helped someone so please don't take anything that seems strange for granted..this WLS is to serious to have done to let a wrong decision cause us to lose our life and everything that means so much to us... I had pain at the end of May 2004. The left side of my intestines would hurt after I ate and I was nausauted after eating also. Spent a week in the hospital - doing tests after tests. Aug. 10, 2004 I had a normal day, but after supper something didn't feel right. I thought I had gas, but the pain was unbelievable!!! Got to the hospital and hour away by 9pm, gave me morphine and a CT scan to find out my intestines were twisted and flipped, adhesions on the intestines and I had a blockage. I was admitted at 3:30am, and taken down for surgery at 6am!! After a week again in the hospital I was let out....but now I have pain, not as bad, but on the right side. Kinda freaking out...doing a swallowing Eval on Tuesday to make sure that is ok.....but when you have a blockage you know it!! I was even throwing bowel up!! Maryjean Taylor 250/143 open rny 8/5/03
