Question:
I don't know if this is dumping, stricture or just sick. Help

I was 2 weeks post op tue. This morning I got up felt great walked for 30 min., pulled weeds. When I came in I drank 20ozs of water, I had not eaten breakfast. As soon as I finished the water I got so sick. I have not thrown up at all until today and nothing came up not even the water I had just drank. It was just diareah and dry heaves, I thought I would die and almost wanted to. What was that? I took 2 rolaids and had some chicken broth and feel so much better now but I am worried that since the water did not come up that maybe it did not get into my stomach and maybe I have some blockage. Likely just a bug. If you can eat solid food then a stricture isnt the problem since water goes down when solds wouldnt. My profile covers this, got a bug at a month or two out and worried it was a terrible complication. Relax, we all get stomach flus even those who never had WLS. Never heard of anyone dumping on plain water.

How fast did you drink the water? That early post-op I was still just "sipping". Taking in too much to fast made me vomit.

Even at two months post-op, I'd puke too if I drank 20 oz of water in a sitting. At 2 weeks post-op you should be drinking about 1 oz (yes it's like half of a normal gulp) every 15 minutes. So unless it took you 5 hours to drink that 20 oz, you drank it too fast and it's no wonder it came back up! Slow down the drinking and you'll feel MUCH better!

If you drank 20 ounces of water it made it to your stomach. If you were able to drink more (broth) afterwards odds are it went on thru as well. Sounds to me like a simple case of dehydration to me. We dehydrate so much quicker now and you did a lot of stuff with no food to nurish your bod. So it paid you back :>)
