Question:
Has anyone had a TT and/or breast reduction covered by Federal BCBS?

If BCBS Federal covered your TT do you think rashes, backaches and large panni are enough to qualify? Thanks for the help!    — Michelle F. (posted on September 11, 2002)

My insurance company (aetna mc) said that any extra skin removal, post-op is covered. They also say that breast reduction is covered if you have back-aches and your pcp recommends it.

I have federal BC/BS also. You're ahead of me though. I had open RNY on 3/6/02--I've lost 104 lbs., but I still need to lose another 80 lbs. before I have recontructive surgery. I know that I will need the abdominoplasty, brachioplasty and thighs done. To be medically necessary some insurances will not consider back pain, odor, personal hygiene difficulties, etc. All they will look at is basically whether you have rashes. And it needs to be documented. I've heard that if you don't have a rash, you can give yourself one by using nair under the apron or pat sugar water under your apron. I haven't tried it yetr since I have quite a bit to lose yet. Let me know if you get the insurance to pay. I hope to be trying myself next spring.

Michelle, I also have federal BCBS. Did you find out if they will cover the procedures in your question? I would be interested to know what you found out. My email is [email protected] Thanks
