I need names of Lap surgeons Dr.'s in California that take Blue Cross of CA PPO
If you have Blue Cross of CA and have had LAP RNY - Please tell me your surgeon's name. I need to find a new surgeon that doesn't require you too loss 10% of your body weight before they will operate. — Kimberley D. (posted on June 10, 2002)

I believe you can call Fresno Valley Surgical Specialists at 559-449-3901.
I'm pretty sure they take Blue Cross, I know they do ask you to lose
weight, but no one has ever been turned away because they weren't able too
(knock on wood). Good Luck!

I had lap surgery in Fresno Ca. The Dr.'s are great and after care

Standford university has a lap doctor under gastroinstenial department.
They take blue shield. STANDFORD IS A GOOD QUALITY HOSPITAL

Hi Kimberly,
I had surgery with Valley surgical in Fresno. To my knowledge they accept
your insurance . Also, they didnt ask me to lose weight prior to
surgery..but they did a shame on me because I gained 6 lbs..hey what did
they expect..it took 9 mos from consult to surgery date..LOL. Anyways, they
are the best..so give them a call . :)

I have Blue Cross PPO too, and I had exactly the same question, I haven't
had my surgery yet, but the surgeon I chose was Dr. Felix, in Fresno, even
though I live in Orange County. He does the Lap RNY, he's done thousands,
and taught the procedure to others. BTW, his next seminar is June 18th, so
you might want to call ASAP if you like what you read about him on this

When I emailed the office to see if there was anything I needed to bring to
the office with me other than what was listed in their book (they send you
a book detailing the surgery, risks, follow-up, all that) and ask you to
write a letter. Anyway, he answered my nervous little email himself, the
surgeon, I mean how cool is that? His answer was really nice too!

Dr. POwell in Pasadena is great. I also have Blue Cross PPO, my surgery was
performed at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

Try Dr. Albert Wetter in Burlingame. I'm not sure which insurance plans he
takes, but he does not require weight loss. His web site is

I also have Blue Cross PPO. I know know the Southern California area,
unfortunately. In order to get the best care possible, I consulted three
different surgeon groups and was even willing to go out of network if
needed. I am going with Dr. Powell in Pasadena. He has an excellent track
record as a lap surgeon and Huntington Hospital where he operates is an
excellent hospital. As an added bonus he does accept Blue Cross PPO. Good
luck with your decision.
