Question:
Has anybody had trouble taking their vitamins?

I am 1 week post-op, and having a very hard time stomaching my chewable vitamin. If I don't take it immediatly after I fill my stomach I get nauseated. Not to mention the taste. It is enough to make me gag. At this moment I'm taking flintstone chewables. Does anybody have any suggestions or been through this also?    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 11, 2001)

I had the same problem with the vitamins I was taking. I bought sugar-free bugs bunny (flavor is ok). I would grind them to a powder, then dump the powder in the back of my throat and take a drink or two of water. I could not chew them without getting so very nauseous (spell?). Hope this helps.

You must be taking Flintstones complete, with Iron. DO they tast, um, metallic, like you are chewing on a rusty nail? That is the problem with chewable Iron, my friend. Have a friend buy you plain old Flintstones, and take Iron in a (not chewable) separate Pill. My doc prescribed me Trinsicon, a prenatal vitamin with Iron, B 12 and the like, whcih I take w/food. DOn't stress too much at a week out about vitamins, or even protein. You are healing, first and foremost. Don't stress, until 2 weeks you will feel not so great, then you will feel fine except for this big old cut on your belly.

I also suggest Bugs Bunny sugar free. It could be the sugar in the Flintstone ones causing the problem.

I had trouble finding a chewable vitamin I liked too. But I really like the taste of One a Day Kids Complete. They are by far the best tasting to me anyway. Kind of taste like those chewy sweetarts, but they aren't chewy. :) Also, they are sweetened with Aspartame so they are sugar free. Take care!

I am 2 months post-op and have been taking regular one-a-day vitamins. I tried a gel vitamin but it was too large and got stuck. The one-a-day are small and I can swallow them with no problem. Chewable vitamins make me gag (taste bad) so I had to find something that I could take and not make me sick.

Centrum makes both a chewable and a liquid multi-vitamin. My doctor recommends NOT taking children's vitamins as adult needs are different. I got my chewables in a Stop N Shop food store. Maybe this will help...
