Question:
Anyone else with my stats and reach goal?

I had open RNY 1/31/03 of this year. I'm 5ft. 4in. and started out at 294.5. I'm currently 194, with a loss of 100 pounds. It's taken me 9.5 months to lose that. I consider myself a slow loser, but yes I'm very happy with my loss. I'm just nervous now that I won't reach goal which personally is 160 for me and probably 145 for my doctor. Are these realistic goals? Thanks so much!    — Tamara S. (posted on November 15, 2003)

I'm 5'3 and had on open rny on 5-8-01. No I never made it to goal. (129 or 130 and a 30 waist jeans) Not even close. I weighed 319 at my highest (but I quit weighing myself so who knows). I lost good for 12 months and then only 20 pounds between 12-24 months. I lost down to around 160 which was half my weight. My weight ususally fluxs between 162-164. I've had a very sad year so I stopped eating for a couple days. Finally dropped to 156. Now I flux between 156-160. It can't be muscle weight as I have NO upper body weight. (I'm bottom heavy). :( But on a bright note at least I've been able to keep from gaining it back by being careful.

Hi I had mysurgery November 4th, 2002 and started out at 284 at 5'4 and I am now down to 151. I passed the doctors goal of 160 and I am only 6 pounds away from my goal of 145. Congratulations on your loss and keep up the good work. I am in a size 12 some 10's if I am lucky. I need a major thigh lift and then I would be perfect in my eyes. I have been bouncing back and forth between 151 and 154 but have upped my water and protein so right now holding steady, but hope to be at goal by new year's eve.

I am too 5'3 1/2" at the time of surgery I weighed 287. Today I am 187. My surgery was 2/5/03. Sometimes I think I should have lost more, but when I check this board and see others with similiar stats it's reassuring! Thanks for the post!

I am also 5'4". I had my surgery 4/03 and started at 269. As of today I am 7 months out and down 107 pounds. I currently weigh 162. I don't really know what I "should" weigh because IMHO doctors weight charts are way off. At my current weight the only part of my body that I am not happy with is my tummy and hips-but now it seems like every ounce I lose is from these areas-FINALLY!!! I think your goal is realistic enough, but it may be a tad high, depending on your body type. My goal really isn't so much a weight number as it is the bmi numbers-in order for me to be in the "normal" catagory I need to get down to 145. That's what I'm shooting for! Best wishes to you. Beth-RNY 4/03-269/162/1??

Tamara, I started at 5'5 and 305. I lost the first 100lbs in the first 7 mos and I am down 122 since surgery 8-15-02. I am now at 183. DON'T TAKE THIS AS GOSPEL, EVERYONE ELSE IS DIFFERENT. No one loses the same, I went into this comparing myself to my WLS idol, Paula M (check out her profile its amazing), she lost 140-160 lbs in 10 mos, so, I assumed we would all be like this. Weight Loss as individual as each person is. Good Luck. Heather 305/183/150.
