Question:
Like how often do you go? I'm 13days post op.

This is so embarrassing to ask but this is my 13th day post op and I have not had a BM since last Tuesday is it normally should I be concerned? I have no stomach aches I feel fine. I have been eating should it come out the other end...... I'm kinda freaked out..    — Maribelle C. (posted on October 20, 2003)

I am 2 1/2 months post-op, I feel that you should have a bm everyday, some disagree, you should not go more than 3 days is what my surgeon said when I asked him. Take some Phillips Milk of Magneasia, it helped me, and it is very gentle, take about a tablespoon, and you should have a good movement, and until you get a little further post-op, I would take it about every other day. I am no expert, that is just what worked for me, now I eat about 1 oz of shelled sunflower seeds, of course I take the seed out and eat that and throw away the shells, but it makes me have a movement everyday and I love them.

I'm just about 7 months post-op. I believe, if I remember correctly, it took me about a week or two to finally have a bowel movement...something about your bowels being shock right after surgery. It sometimes takes a while for them to get up and running again and at the normal speed. Also, you are probably still on the liquid phase, that generally produces less also. I wouldn't worry too much about it, however I'm not a doctor. So, if you are worried about it, I would suggest calling your surgeon's office and talk to someone about it. They don't mind...I'm sure they get these type of calls all the time. I wish you much luck in your journey to a healthier you! (smiles)

Before taking anything, I'd call and speak to your Surgeon to make sure that there is no problem. When I first got home I discovered that I'd go everytime I ate something during the first day or two. Then one day I ate some soup and this did not happen so I called my doctor worried that something was wrong because I'd grown accustomed to going. He told me that my body was adjusting and that he felt that it was normal. He stated that some people will have a bowel movement every day while some will go every couple of days. I currently go perhaps every couple of days and notice when I go to my appointments he'll ask about them and even ask what color they are (gross). 11wksPost-51lbs
