Question:
Anyone regret getting an arm lift/brachioplasty?

I am almost 1 year post-op and starting to think about plastic surgery. I exercise faithfully, but my arms were really huge when I had surgery...not I look like BatGirl...no, not the Super Heroe..more like a female bat who can spred her wings and fly with the best of them! I am starting to research plastic surgery and although I really want to have my arms done I am terrified of the scars. Is there anyone out there who have had their arms done that wish they hadn't? Any thoughts on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!    — pam29922 (posted on April 18, 2003)

Pamela, I have not had this surgery done, but I did have the pleasure of hearing a plastic surgeon speak to our last support group meeting. His idea was to take a black marker and run a line from your armpit to your elbow on the inside of your arm, and wear it like that for a week. If you can live with how it looks, then have it done. He says this is one of the few plastic surgery scars you cannot hide...it is out there and noticeable. All of us have to make a decision based on what we as individuals can live with, or not live with. This sounded like a good idea he had, and might give you a different perspective. Hope this helps, and good luck! Teresa

I had my arms done 4 months ago and they look beautiful. I suggest that you find the best PS out there and make an appointment. Sit down with him and ask to see ALL of the arm photos he can show you. Do your homework and go with the best. It's expensive but an investment in yourself. I'm going to the beach today and will be sure that we get some photos of me showing my arms. I'll post them on my profile as soon as I can. If you'd like to email me, I can send them to you. Good luck and congratulations on your weightloss and changing your life and body!! i had my panniculectomy/brachioplasty done 17 months ago and I am still in love with my new arms! I also worried about the scars, but they are "nothing" compared to the joy of being able to buy clothes in the right sizes, and not having to buy dresses/tops two sizes too large just so the arms will fit....or not having to worry about taking flight in a stiff wind :-) It's true that the scars extend from elbow to armpit, but now they are just faint white lines, and the incisions were strategically placed so that the scars are not visible unless I hold my arms up over my head (not something I do on a regular basis). Seriously, next to my RNY, this plastic surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself. Best wishes!
