Question:
Have you had chronic diarrhea?

I have a friend who just had the surgery 3 months ago and she can not stop the diarrhea. She has eaten very little in the 3 months and for most of the time has been in the hospital. They have sent her home now and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. What did you do? She has lost over 200 pounds in the 3 months and I am very fightened that she will die if this continues. Thanks for any help you can give us.    — Ronni A. (posted on November 14, 2004)

I suffered this for over four months and when my doctor finally prescribed Lomotil I got some relief. I had absolutely no control -- it was awful. It's not like Immodium AD; it works to slow down the peristalsis and I thought of it as a wonder drug! Nina in Maine

I'm 21 months post op (Lap RNY) and have never had diarrhea once! I've heard of many with these issues, although. Funny how we all differ from one to another.

I am post-op. I had my surgery back in 2003. In April, 2004 I was suffering with diarrhea. It had been going on for about three weeks, so I went to my doctor. By the time I decided to go to the doctors it had gotten so bad that I couldn't leave my home. It was running right out of me. I had no control. Finally, I went to my doctor and found out that I was allergic to: Wheat, Milk, Corn, Oats, Soy, and Eggs. The best advice, would be to see your physician. Good Luck! Peni
