Question:
I had my surgery on Oct. 20.. I did fine, even went home in a day and a half.. Stay

on liquid diet first 8 days. Then I slowly added soft foods like cream of wheat ect... The question is now 10 days post-op I find I can eat just about anything..I'm not getting sick I have no pain and I feel fine.. It scares me because I know I'm eating more than 4oz. of food at one time.. Help................    — M. (Annette) P. (posted on October 30, 2003)

You should let your surgeon know what types of foods you are eating and how much of it you are eating and see what he/she thinks. That is your best bet. Good luck! ((hugs))

I am actually the same way, I don't know that I could eat more than 4oz but I have had no problems and can eat anything, even fairly quickly.

me too! But I do find myself getting sick...yucky slime in the back of the throat, dry heaves for about 15 mins if I dont chew enough or eat too fast. I ate a whole little 4 oz cottage cheese and didnt realize it was 4 oz. BAD!!! Now I am paranoid I stretched the pouch out....

Hi Annette. I'm five weeks post op and so far, nothing has made me sick but I'm like the earlier poster. If I eat too fast or too much, I hurt and I sure don't have any luck throwing it up. I started back measuring because I thought I was eating way too much but it turned out it just looked like a lot compared to the one ounce portions I started with. If you think you're eating too much, maybe you could try going back to measuring and only eating the amount your plan says to eat. It's worked for me. Good luck on finding an answer.

Hi, Annette! I didn't have this problem myself as a new post-op, but my son did. He was able to eat so much I thought they didn't do his surgery right! It's inexplicable, but the feelings of fullness sometimes take time to develop. His doctor's office told him to follow their guidelines as to amounts of food to eat, and then later on at about 4-5 weeks post-op, he began to feel full after much less food. The other thing about eating soft/pureed foods is that they slide through the pouch pretty easily. When you begin eating more solid things, you'll start to feel full faster too. Relax, you'll be fine! Best wishes.

What are you eating? That makes a difference, is it mostly soft things, they go through the pouch much quicker then lets say some fish.
