Question:
Have any post-ops had experience with PCOS?

I'm wondering...after surgery and large weight loss, will PCOS be helped? For example, with unwanted hair, skin tags, hair thinning, etc. I'm past fertility age so I could care less if I could get pregnant! Thanks for any insight.    — Yoland O. (posted on December 12, 2002)

I've recently lost 125# in the last 8months. As of yet, I haven't seen any changes with the symptoms of PCOS. I'm still hoping the weight loss will help with balancing the hormones. I am having my periods again but with the help of progesterone cream applied twice a day which I had started a year before I had the surgery. I feel great though losing 125# and still have about 45# to go. Good luck to you.

I am 25 years old and have PCOS. I have lost about 90 pounds since january 24, 2002. I started at 274 and am now at about 185. Since losing weight I now have a period every other week it seems. I never had one before, unless I was on birth control which I hate. i am hoping that my period regulates along with my weight and I am able to get pregnant. I still have the hair, but I take aldactone and that helps a little. I was also on glucophage before surgery, but my specialist took me off of it since surgery. I also dont feel like I am losing as much as everyone else and dont feel like I will reach my goal weight of 150 and I think it is from the PCOS. I do feel 100% better than I did before and have so much more energy. Good Luck with your surgery

I posted two replies on this, but nothing showed up. You may want to check my site to read how WLS has helped my PCOS. As for your unwanted body hair- once hair is grown, it cannot ungrow. Youhave to use lazer or electrolisys...

Yes, I enver had normal cycles and had to do IVF/ICSI to conceive my son (also have male factor and blocked tubes). Since surgery, my periods have been regular and normal in length and once in a while I get PMS. I've never experienced any of that before. It's almost like I'm going through puberty for the first time. LOL Lisa -114lbs open rny 4/26/02
