Question:
Anyone get severe pouch pain, followed by diarreah after drinking an alcoholic drink?

OK, folks, I did a very stupid thing last night. I am not a drinker. We have a bottle at home of whiskey, just maybe a couple of shots in the bottle, got it from a relative for a christmas recipe. Anyway, last night due to some major MAJOR stress I'm under at work and home. I dunno what I was thinking, I just up and chugged myself a shot of it. I am talking not even on the rocks. Talk about an impulsive very STUPID thing to do. I thought ok it will relax me for sure. Well I immediately had a terrible burning sensation in my pouch. It lasted say maybe 15 minutes. That was last night around 9pm. Today after lunch which was only a can of vienna sausages, I got a really sharp stabbing pain in my pouch. Took 2 tums it went away in about a half hour. This was followed about 2 hours later by a severely violent attack of diareah that I am still woozy from. Never will do that again for sure. Anyone else have this type of after effect the day after drinking alcohol???    — SARose61 (posted on March 22, 2005)

i TRIED TO HAVE A WINE COOLER ONE NIGHT AND I WAS SIPPING VERY SLOWLY BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW IT COULD AFFECT ME. AFTER ONLY A COUPLE OF SIPS, I HAD THE MOST SEVERE PAIN AND I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE BATHROOM AND HAD DIARREAH. I HADN'T HAD ANOTHER SINCE BUT THAT WAS ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. AND I AM 4 1/2 WEEKS POST OP.

That's a long time after to get a reaction from such a small amount of alcohol ( I have no tolerance...it makes me sick right away, but when its done, its done). For me, the reaction you are talking about happens when I eat the same food you did.

I have experienced this but have found a way around it. I found that if I drink straight liquor it really burns but if you mix it with something like, make it an apple martini it doesn't bother me at all. One drink gets me very drunk so i never drink more than half of one.

I cannot drink any Pre-mixed alchohol drinks, like winecoolers and such, they are too sweet and make me very Ill, even wine doesn't go down so well. However....I can drink vodka drinks like bloody marys or mix it with diet soda. Never straight though and not too many (1 or 2 drinks) because it doesn't take much to make you feel the effects and then I just fall asleep! :-)
