Question:
Does these amounts seem right?

Hello, friends. I am five months post-op today and I just mapped out a meal plan for myself to follow. I totaled up the calories, fat, net carbs and protein and here are the numbers I came up with: Calories: 1032.5; Fat: 42.75; Carbs: 84; Protein: 79.5. Do these numbers seem right? I want to make sure that I'm on track. Those calories seem like a lot to me. I am also getting 76 oz. of water/crystal light and one caffeine free/diet soda per day. I plan on starting the "Walk Away the Pounds" workout tonight and doing it five days per week. I have lost 82 pounds so far. What does everyone think? Hard to say, exactly. The red flag for me is that your carbs are higher than your protein, which is generally regarded negatively. My dietician says it's a no-no. But, depending on the plan your dietician has for you, it could be fine. Not very helpful, I know. But, good luck to you!

I think you are doing well. I am almost 8 months and I am just at 75 pounds. Not that I am complaining, I am extremely happy about it. By my one year I should be at 100 pounds lost.

My surgeon said limit fat to20g a day, and she didn't care about carbs as long as they were good carbs.

You may want to lower the carbs and calories a little for 5 months post-op. Most recommend 1000-1200 calories at around 9-12 months. I think your doing very well on the protein, liquid intake and fat. Remember we malabsorb some fat. A good exercise program is a great addition and congrats on the wonderful weight loss so far!! Good job.

Everyone has a different diet plan and work out program. I was put on 65gr. protien, no more than 35gr. fat and I never counted or worried about carbs or calories at all and I did my work out routine 3-4 days a week and I lost 100lbs my first 6mo and now have lost a total of 133lbs. and hit goal soon after my 1yr ann. I just listened to my Surgeon and Nutritionist. Good luck and sounds like your doing a great job!

Carbs tend to be the problem for most people as they trigger cravings for more of them; also, if you are having 80 grams of carbs a day, your body will be using the carbs for fuel before burning your stored fat. I would definitely lower your daily carb intake.

From the various answers you received, I think I'll conclude that what works for you is what is right! If you're still happy with your weight loss, and everything is going along fine, then you shouldn't need to change much. Is this basically what you've been doing thus far? If so, and you've lost 82 pounds in 5 months, then I'd say your plan is working. Everyone has a different approach to post-op eating and exercise plans, and we all have to find what works best for us individually. I don't think this is a "one size fits all" type of thing. Best wishes for your continued success. Lap RNY 9/11/03, 254/185/???
