Question:
How long of a procedure is the scope/dialation? How long are you in the hospital for

Hi, I had a scope done just recently and it took no time at all. You go in and the give you some medicine thru an IV so you don't have any pain, then the procedure itself takes just a few minutes, then they wheel you back to the recovery area and then they come and talk to you, then you go home that same day. It really is no big deal at all. Good luck to you.

My DH had an EGD done last week. The surgeon came out to talk to me after about 30 minutes, and they let me come back in the recovery area a few minutes later. He was already wide awake, talking and drinking some juice and feeling better. He only had to take off his shirt and put on a hospital gown - still had on his slacks, socks and shoes. He had a complication and was kept overnight (some bleeding from an abraded area in his pouch, as well as a very slight stricture), otherwise we would have been out of there shortly thereafter. I would say it was 2 hours from the time we got there (an hour before the scheduled procedure start time) until he would have been able to go home. He had no discomfort from the EGD at all.

It takes longer to get registered into the hospital then the procedure takes. It is painless and nothing at all to worry about...I promise! : )

The procedure itself is very short- mine ws 5 minutes. It's the set-up that takes a while. I waited about 2 hours in the surgical waiting area. Answering questions, getting in the gown, IV set-up, etc. And I was out, so don't remember a thing. Goodluck to you!
