Question:
What is this pain around my belly button??? (Seven weeks post op)

I am so confused. I am seven weeks post-op from open RNY and I am having sharp stabbing pains on the left and right side of my belly button. These pains cause me to double over and feel faint because the pain is so intense. I can't even stand or walk without the pains coming so strong that I feel like I am going to pass out. I called my doctor and made an appointment for Wed. but the pain was so bad last night that I ended up going to the Emergancy Room. They couldn't find anything wrong. WHAT IS THIS???? My bowels are working fine. I can eat and drink anything and not get sick. I don't understand. I am going to the doctor Wed. at 3:40 but would love to have some input if anyone has ever felt this. Thanks~ Candi    — Candi B. (posted on July 30, 2002)

Candi, I almost didn't post, because I really haven't experienced this myself. I know you're worried, so maybe you'll get a good answer. Could it possibly be gas? I know the ER is not the best place to get a good answer, but they should have detected anything seroius. Let us know what the dr. says. God Bless!

It could be your gallbladder. Not everyone feels gallbladder pain in the same area. I had pain in my lower back and to the left and right of my bellybutton and my gallbladder was clearly diseased. I didn't have typical bad gallbladder symptoms. Did the ER take any blood tests to check your enzyme levels? If your lipase and amylase are elevated, that's an indication that you are having problems with your gallbladder. Good luck, and I hope you find your answer soon!
