Question:
I am 11 days post-op, and my doctor said that I can start eating regular protien.

The onlyl problem is I can't hold it down. I think I may also be trying to eat to much because I keep having the sharp pain in my stomach before I throw up. Or maybe I'm just eating too fast. I don't know, but can someone please give me some advice. Should I just go back on the liquid diet for 2 more weeks? Or am I doing something wrong, can you help me? Thanks in advance.    — tjmoore (posted on February 3, 2002)

You need to mention what it is you are trying to eat. "Regular Protein" could mean an array of things. Is it soft foods - like cottage cheese or yogurt? Or are you trying to eat straight chicken or beef? Help us out so we can help you!

I am 7 weeks post-op and sometimes I still eat too fast/too much. I don't throw up but I am in PAIN!!! One thing that works for me is measuring `1 oz of protien in a medicine cup (1 oz) and chew a long time, take 2-3 minutes before the next bite. Also deli turkey/ham shaved is the best it's kinda moist. Good Luck

I am 13 days post-op (- 17.5#) and have been eating solids since post-op day 5. I really recommend that you measure your portions and chew your food really well. If you are feeling pain after eating, you're probably eating too fast and too much for your new pouch. Why don't you try some sauteed scallops (2-3 large are 2 oz) or perhaps some chicken prepared in a pressure cooker till super tender? Eggs are a good protein source, but don't over cook them. Soft cooked is easiest to digest. Also baked fish is really good and easy to digest. Please remember, YOUR EYES ARE REALLY BIGGER THAN YOUR STOMACH NOW! Better that you eat less that your pouch capacity than having to suffer through by feeling like you swallowed a coconut!! (You don't want to take a chance and disrupt your staple line or pop your band right?) Good luck to you, and remember...you now eat to live, not live to eat. :-)
