Question:
too much calcium, during my 6 month lab test my calcium came back to high

so my dr. ordered a pth blood test, this also came back high, so i had to go get a parathyroid scan done. they are checking for hypercalcemia. i am freaking out here, because i was not even taking a calcium pill, and my calcium was fine before the surgery. help!!!    — carrieforshee (posted on October 31, 2004)

My non-medical guess is that these are elevated because you are too LOW in calcium and are using up bone about as fast as you can read this. I suspect that if you suddenly started on 2000mg calcium citrate with D that both levels would drop immediately. You might want to go to the osteoporosis list. Certainly before anyone jerks out your parathyroid gland, when calcium supplement might've turned the corner for you. Just curious, have you had kidney stones?
