I would try to continue being on Oxford. I had both my gastric bypassin 1999 and my revision in 2004 covered by Oxford with no problem

I would recommend keeping your Oxford benefits under the COBRA Act. You will have to pay your monthly premium..but in the long run it may be worth paying it for a few months to save you the hassle of starting from ground zero with a new insurance company.

If you quit, you could do cobra and keep what you have until your finished. IF you change to another insurance you will have to be 'approved' by them, if they cover it. The same TESTS can be used you wouldnt have to re do the tests; just submit them to the new insurance company

If at all possible do not quit your job until you have your sugery you will go through a stessfull time trying to get another insurance company and it will push tour WL success back. Hang in your job until you get the surgery. You are close you are at pre-op testing next they will schedule surgery. Try to stick it out cobra insurance means you will pay the entire amount for the insurance premuim. Check with your employer this could be $300 or more per month

When you change jobs after your surgery you may have trouble getting insured. No one will insure my husband or me since we are post-bariatric. If where you are going to work at has a group-plan, then you are probably safe--the group plans cant turn anyone down. But if you are looking to be insured privately, you will be out of luck. I just had my surgery on 7/6/04 and my last day of work was 8/27/04 (group insurance plan). Hubby had his surgery 2 1/2 years ago. I am going to work for a small company that doesn't have a group plan, and my husband's work place doesn't offer a group plan either. So, we searched and searched for a private insurance that would cover us post-bariatric, and no one will. We are staying on my COBRA insurance for 18 months (big bucks, but no other choice). Hubby may be elligible for private insurance once he is 3 years post op, but I will most likely need to go on some type of state coverage once the COBRA runs out. best wishes, and good luck Diana
