My WLS Surgeon told me I could drive as soon as I was no longer taking pain medications. I was on pain medication 2 days after getting home then didn't need it any more. I started driving on the third day home.

I think I was supposed to wait a couple of weeks but that was'nt possible. So it was around 5 days in my case.

I had lap RNY and was OFF pain meds and driving within 4 days after coming home from the hospital. The bumps in the road are a bit uncomfortable as well as if you had to brake suddendly, other wise I felt fine. GOOD LUCK.

I was told to wait two weeks. It has nothing to do with how comfortable YOU are driving, whether it hurts, doesn't hurt or whatever...it has to do with the possibility of tearing your sutures should you have to break rapidly or get in an accident. I was told even a minor fender-bender could cause enough pressure to cause suture damage. Just wasn't worth the risk to me. Good luck!

My surgeon said SIX WEEKS! I tried it at five and could feel pulling inside, not a good sign as it can mean stiches are being pulled. So be careful !

I was about 10 days out. Felt fine. Dr. told me do what ever feel okay to me. Best advice he could have given me. Each person is different. Good Luck.

I had lap RNY and was told I could drive when I was no longer taking any narcotic pain reliever. That was about day 3 at home, day 5 post op, so it was soon after that because I went back to work on day 12 post op.

I started driving about 1 week post-op and I was told to wait until 2 weeks. I only drove a couple blocks away to take my son to school b/c my hubby had to go back to work and I had no one else to help me.

My doctor says for open you should wait atleast 4 weeks....times vary, as im noticing, I guess it all depends on how you feel. I have Lap Rny and drove the day I came home from hospital ( I was never on pain meds, dr doesnt give them).
