Question:
what did you wear

I've heard woman say that they either did or did not wear bras while in hospital because of the incision, but what i'm wondering is weather or not any underwear is worn(trust me i'm not a pervert). I intend to have my rny open(after ins. approval), and i wanted to know if the incision prevented anyone from being able to wear underwear during the hospital stay. thanks    — tracy W. I wore underwear and loose drawstring pants. The first couple of days, I didn't care if I was "buck nekkid" but after I was more aware, I figured I'd better get some clothes on... LOL! I also started my period, so I HAD to wear undies. I didn't wear a bra at all. In fact, I didn't put a bra on until I had to go back to work! I had a lap, and my highest incision was in a place where I thought my bra would rub against it, but it didn't. Hope that helps. ;)

I myself didnt wear underware or bra until until i could put them on myself in the hospital. I had a catheder the first day post op. I could barely go sit on the toilet to pee let alone try to pull some darn underware up. I say, what ever makes you comfortable do cause that incision isnt fun to mess with. I had lap that turned open and i didnt want anything touching it.

I also did not wear a bra. I figured in a few months no one would recognize me so who cares. LOL. I wore a non-underwire after I had my staples removed. I had it done lap though. Just my thought. GOOD LUCK! Nicole

Good question! I had open rny and did not wear a bra until my first post op appt with my surgeon. Since my incision is right at my bra line I bandaged my incision and put a minipad in my bra for maximum comfort and no rubbing...worked like a charm. As for undies, I got my period they day after surgery so undies were a must. Best wishes and good luck with your surgery

I didnt wear a bra or undies... nor did I wear any of the 4 new night gowns with matching robes :) I didnt use the makeup or perfume I brought :) I wore hospital gowns and when I walked I wore one that tied in back .. when you get the catheter out ,you still have to pull a pole to the bath room with you .. pulling panties up and down is one more problem I didnt need . OHH The chap stick .. I USED :) mine was open .. 6 days ago and I have lost 10 lbs :) Good luck

I didnt wear a bra, but I was all about wearing my underwear. It didn't touch my incision. I brought an older not-so-great pair, but I wore them. They just came up to wear the drain tube was, but not enough to bother it.

Hi, I never did wear the robe and nighty I brought along. They were hard to get on. I did wear some older undies I had brought along for the second day. I just felt more comfy with them on. The hosptial gowns and robes were looser and easier for me to get on after my surgery too and that made a difference. I didn't have to stretch so much to get them on.

I am 11 days post-ope and I did not wear any underwear just the hospital gown. They had nice big ones at the hospital I was at so did not have to worry about anything showing. There are times when you really need to get to the bathroom in a hurry did not want to fool with underpants.

I didn't wear a bra in the hospital, but to come home, I wore one of those sport bras that are made out of t-shirt material with no problem. As for panties, I went out and bought some cotton bikinis and they were perfect.

hi just another post here....my scar goes from two inches below my clevage to three inches above my so called belly button i did not wear a bra for weeks i wore lose dresses with a lose over shirt as for undies even the large granny panties i wear didn't reach my scar. the scar is higher than the waist band and yes i was one of the unlucky one's that started my period at the hospital so if your in that age group go prepared with plenty of undies and your own style pads. wear the hospital gowns there roomie and you don't have to worry about ruining your own stuff. best of luck to you, kimberly open distal bypass 11/12/02 -72lbs

I didn't wear either. I stayed in the hospital gowns my entire stay. On the way home, I wore really lose underwear, my jeans and a shirt....in the car, had to pull the jeans down some, they were hittin in on my incision. For the next few week while at home, I wore shorts and a tank top or a big gown....no undergarments. My incision started at about 1 inch below my breast bone all the way to my belly button.... 13 inches.
