I hate to be blunt, but since you asked....I'll answer. You don't say what you mean by being a little ahead of the diet schedule. As a surgical nurse, though, I can tell you that not only can it hurt your pouch, it can kill you....and I'm not exaggerating, being pessimistic, or trying to scare you. OK, maybe I do hope to scare you.....you made the decision to have this surgery and abide by the rules....and the rules weren't given to you to punish you.....I think you know that or you wouldn't be asking. Go back to your surgeon's diet plan and get back on track....it isn't just to ensure weight loss, it's to ensure minimizing complications such as leaks and staple line disruptions which can lead to death.

Gary, I too am 14 days post-op. It seems like when you read different journals that everyone's doctor varies on what the post-op diet should be. I have read of some people eating "normal food" shortly after surgery and then we have doctor's such as mine who recommend 4 weeks of liquid and then graduating to soft foods. A few days ago I was bored out of my mind with the liquids and consulted a friend who has been through this surgery and she said that it would not hurt to try some cottage cheese so I did and it went down good and made me feel so much better about keeping on track with my liquid diet. I only have eaten 1/4 cup a day and chew it down well.

I too am 2 wks post op (open RNY)and have had a little cottage cheese which has been well tolerated. My roommate in the hospital worked as a supervisor at a nursing home and she told me about a person who was admitted to their nursing home just prior to her going off work. This individual had RNY and three weeks after surgery, had a steak and salad dinner---blew out the pouch and had to have corrective surgery, and had to go to nursing home for convalesence. What was that person thinking!? Made me half sick to think about it!!
