Question:
question for girls regarding monthy cycle!

I had my open rny on 2/22/02 and have lost 115 pounds. My problem is - all my life my periods have been like clockwork - every 28-30 days, lasting 5 days. Now I am having periods almost every 3 weeks - one month will be heavy the next will be light. I have never had any problems before (have always had pretty heavy bleeding and cramps) and have never been diagnosed with any disease relating to this. Is this normal because of weight loss? I am very happy with my loss, but feel it really is on the slower side, so I don't see how it would affect my periods like this, esp. since it has been 8 months since my surgery. Any suggestions or responses will be greatly appreciated! And by the way - am very happy with my surgery - no problems, no being sick, no dumping! Very happy i chose to do this and would do it again in a heartbeat!!!! Take care and thanks!!!    — Tammy M. (posted on November 7, 2002)

Estrogen is stored in our fat and when we lose weight very quickly it is also rapidly released into our system. So A)it can mess with your cycle and B) we are super fertile!!! if you are not looking to get pregnent you should be very!! careful!! basically if you are getting your period you are ovulating, so you could actually be ovualting every 3 weeks too. It will probably normalize as your body gets used to what has happened over the past 8 months. You should always ask your doctor if you are afraid that you have a more serious problem. weight can have a very big affect on our homones and periods.

hi tammy :) i had open rny on feb 8 02 so we are very close in dates :) in the years previous before surgery i had alot of cycle problems as i also have pcos. but for some weird reason it had straightened itself out and my cycles returned to normal, although i didnt ovulate, i did get periods on time and regularly.right before surgery i had my cycle then right after as well. i know have problems again with getting cycles to frequently now. i think it has alot to do with the estrogen levels with massive and rapid weight loss. now that im alot lighter and have less pcos symptoms i wonder if ill be able to conceive easier later in the future but i want to wait until i get more weight off and wait until things straighten out again. best of luck to you and hang in there you are not alone :)

Hi, I had messed up periods for years prior to surgery. I was 2/18/02 and have lost approx 100 lbs so far. Now i have periods every 30 days. But they are different. Very heavy on some days, to the point of feeling like it is running out of me. I put it down to the change in my hormone levels and trying to get back to normal. I am assuming now I am ovulating, where I know I wasn't always doing that before.
