Question:
Anyone have canker sores on tongue due to nutritional intake

Each and everytime I have ever dieted in my life, I would get these horrible canker sores on the back of my tongue. They would be so sore, that many times, I would stop the diet and go back to eating normal. Since, malabsorption will be somewhat the "norm" after surgery, I am very worried about getting those sores. It seemed to me it was due to a nutritional imbalance. Any answers out there?!    — Georgia H. (posted on May 31, 2002)

You might want to consider that maybe the reasons for the sores wasn't nutrition, but WHAT it was you were eating. I get these sores sometimes too. For years I thought it was happening when I wasn't eating right, but I realized after surgery that it was when I ate too many acidic type things like oranges and OJ, tomatoes, stuff like that. Next time you get one, give that a thought, maybe you can avoid them in the future.

I used to be a regular canker-victim. Since my surgery, the only time I've had anything resembling them is when I've fallen into a vat of pineapple. I can eat the other acids foods, but pineapple, only in tight moderation. But I have frequent labs and watch my nutritional levels very closely now, too.

I am pre-op but noticed that I have started to get a cancker sore about 1 a month since I started a high pro diet. I figured it was from that. They heal up rather quick with Anbesol.
