Question:
Severe pain following galbladder surgery

I had open RNY last October, and just recently had my galbladder removed. <6 mos later> While removing my galbladder has aleviated a great deal of the pain that I was experiencing, I am still having severe pains very similar to the pain of the gal stones, only more on the left side as opposed to the right. I have spoken with my WLS surgeon to see if there were any specific differences because of my WLS, and was basicaly given the brush off. The surgeon that perfomed the galbladder removal believes it is because of the excess stomach 'juices' in the bypassed section causing gas and stretching against the adheasions that are present in my abdomen. For this I have been prescribed Pepsid. The pain that i am experiencing is usually after I eat, feels like very painful stomach cramps and also has the burning feeling in my back. The same as the galbladder symptoms. Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this after these two surgeries?    — RebeccaP (posted on April 19, 2002)
