Question:
Is it common not to be able to take liquid without burbing or vomiting?

This is Debbie Brown's mother and she is doing well following surgery on June 18. She can't seem to take any liquid without burbing and then vomiting. As a support person how can I help her not to be discouraged? Thanks, Mom    — Debbie B. (posted on June 22, 2001)

This really should be asked of her doctor. She is very early postop. There are questions the doctor will ask. Do not be afraid to call his/her office, that's what they are there for. I have never vomited, not even once and I'm 15 months post op from RNY surgery. Best wishes.
