Question:
GENERALLY SPEAKING- Do you feel the same as you did pre-op?

I am scheduled to consult on Monday, and I was just wondering to all post-ops, does your body and the way you feel inside feel normal? I mean do you feel the same way you felt pre-op, but without being overweight?    — Tanya F. (posted on September 18, 2003)

Hi, I'm 4 weeks post-op, and I still feel the same way I did before surgery. Hopefully that will change after I've lost more weight; I'm down 25 pounds and don't notice much difference yet. I was in the grocery store last night gettin stuff for a pitch-in today, and everything looked so good, I had to remind myself that I can't have that stuff anymore. Right now I'm still on a full-liquid diet; I only have about a week and a half to go til I can move on to the next stage. I have to be very careful to measure out my foods so that I don't overeat and hurt my pouch. I don't feel any pain or anything, so it would be way too easy for me to blow it. I'm starting to notice that I'm not in quite as much pain from arthritis as I was pre-op. Other than burping alot, I don't think I feel much difference, except when I'm full now, the pressure is higher up than it used to be. The full feeling is now almost up in my chest rather than down in the lower belly.

My insides feel just the same, but I know there is a difference. I am 10 months out, so I am used to the new arrangement and the gurgles and noises from early on are pretty well gone.

No! I mean, yes, I feel "normal" inside now that I'm almost 6 weeks out, but I have more energy, my body shape when I am sitting is more like an L instead of a Q, I was just noticing today that I don't feel "jiggly" when I walk, and everything is easier, walking, getting out of my car, etc. It affects how you feel inside physically and mentally. I don't feel "toxic" inside anymore because I'm not eating a bunch of junk food every day. My fat doesn't pull on me everywhere because I have lost some weight now (37 pounds), and my heart and lungs don't get so worked up just climbing the stairs. Hope that answers your question, but even though I feel "back to normal", I certainly don't feel the "same" as I did before surgery.

I don't feel anything from the surgery. I can't tell that my stomach has been made smaller (except that I can't eat much), and my intestines have been rearranged. You do get different sensations physically than before. A previous poster mentioned this, too. I often get "the gurglies" after drinking or after eating certain types of food, where I get a little tickle inside and a gurgling sound. Sometimes that happened before surgery, it's just more common now. I certainly feel different after losing weight, but that has to do with being able to move better, and not being exhausted by simple tasks, and the like. You can't tell that anything on the inside is different.

I feel different. My back, knees and feet don't hurt. I am happier, I exercise so I am much healthier. With everypound I lose I gain more health, energy and confidence. I am a new version of the same person. I am Myra 2.0 now.

Yes ,very different. I am 3 years post op , 53 yrs old. Prior to surgery I actually hated myself. I couldn't stand to look in the mirror at that bloated , sweaty ,tired ,old mess that I had become. I had no energy , I was sick all the time. But not any more! I am no longer sick , therefore I have much more energy , I can do anything. I love the face I see looking back at me in the mirror every morning. I had the courage to take back my life through this surgery. I have become my own Barbie doll! I love to dress me up and take me out. I go every where with confidence.I am no longer fearful of what others will think of me. I am so different and it shows new people I meet comment about what an upbeat happy woman I am. Those who knew me before surgery comment on how much happier I seem now. I am happier , I like myself now!!! 53years,who knew??!!

I feel a new normal. I knees and feet don't hurt. I feel so much better about myself. I am 6 months out and Thank the Lord when I feel full. I burp when I eat things I shouldn't. I can't eat sugar but there are no different feelings in my stomach. I have lost 80 pounds and can wear 12s and 14s....that is a strange but wonderful feeling.

I had no complications after surgery..not even vomiting or dumping...so, other than the fact that I can't eat very much at all, I feel like the same. or rather, I feel GOOD AND NORMAL. There are certainly ways I feel alot different but those are all good ways.

I'm only 9 weeks post-op. But I feel less strong. There was a nurse at my facility who'd had it done 3 years back and she said she was less strong too. She said when someone bumps into her, she nearly falls over. Used to be she was like a rock. I used to be a dynamo, getting tons done each day and being able to lift and carry. Now I'm not able to do as much or have the stamina I did have. Maybe it will come, but that's the biggest change I see.

It does and it dosen't. I'm more aware of 'me' than I was, and I find I have more energy than I did. When I first had the surgery, I could feel my food digest (wierd huh?) Now that everything is healed I feel great. I'm just more aware of what and when I'm eating, and I'm learning to pay more attention to how my body feels. I'm more energetic, and have a more positive outlook. I'm also more aware of how I look, and much more confident. Emotionaly and physicaly this has been a good thing for me. 19 weeks out, down 70 lbs. Good luck and God bless!
