Question:
ARE THERE ANY LONG TERM EFFECTS THAT WE SHOULD BE AWARE OF?

I just checked out that aol board that was previously posted, and I just wanted to hear from some people who have had their WLS over 20, 30 years ago. I just wanted to see if their are any regrets or side affects that we should be aware of.    — Tanya F. (posted on August 18, 2003)

Tanya, the surgery done 20-30 years ago is not the same surgery that is done today. You may want to join the Grad group on Yahoo. It's for people over 1 year out from WLS. Everyone is welcome to lurk & learn, but you must be at least 1 year out to post. We have many people over 10 years out on the Board, even one woman who was 21 years out with the old Mason Bypass, who was just revised to a current RNY. She lost and kept off all her weight, but had problems with acid reflux for years. The reflux is gone now since her revision, and she's doing great. Here's the [email protected]

Here is Dr. Hess's report on long term results of DS, which has been done for 15 years. http://duodenalswitch.com/Procedure/1998Hess/1998hess.html
