Question:
Is there ever anyone in the chat rooms?
Every time I go into the chat room I never find anyone. If I do they are only there a second and then leave. The backup chat room says not to use it (backup chat room) unless there is an intruder in the regular one. How can you tell an intruder? If anyone knows of any other sites that have WLS chat rooms could you please post it? Thanks alot!! — anne H. (posted on June 16, 1999)

The best time to check the chat rooms is in the evenings. To help you all
coordinate yourselves, I set up a chat schedule program. There is a link to
the chat schedule from the home page on the right side. Here any member can
sign up for times they plan to be on line. Look to see when others have
signed up. If you plan to join them, then please SIGN UP for the same time
slot. Get some momentum going. It's very simple. In the future I'll
probably resume my efforts to get satisfied supporters of this site to sign
up for specific time slots each week. By all means, consider doing this
yourself. This site is just a hobby of mine so far. I don't have time
personally to camp out at the chat room (though I'd love to if I could).
Please consider using the chat schedule system. I spent about two full days
making it and I think it works really well for anyone who uses it. Please
email me with any further site questions.

Hi Anne - I am usually in the chat room in the morning before work. That's
about 7:00 am (PDT). You can check the schedule to find out when people
plan to be there. However, I think people just drop in when they can. I
check it out during the day if things are slow at work. Sometimes people
are there and sometimes they aren't.

You can almost always find someone around 10PM EST. Don't rely on the chat
schedule. My name is always there, and I have't signed up in over two
months. Somehow, it just keeps posting me. I can't always be there at
2PM, but I usually drop by a couple of times a day. If you drop in and no
one's there, just hang out for a bit. Someone will more than likely drop
in.

An intruder would be someone harassing the people in there trying to talk
about their issues. If no one is there ... wait a while .. someone almost
always shows up ... Also .. take a look at the chat schedule to see when
the room is being specifically hosted by someone if you want to be certain
someone will definately be there for an extended time. If you have
specific questions, you might want to post them, and read the responses.

Hi Anne, Try coming on in the evenings usually between nine and ten
(eastern standard time). Most nights there are at least ten to twenty
people coming ang going. It's a great place to learn about WLS and make
friends. I have been chatting there for about six weeks now and it is
wonderful. Usually every night. I have found tremendous support from many
friends I have met there. Please, join us!

Hi, I can't get to the WLS chat room because I have webtv. So I made a
chat room for us at Talk City.Go to Talk City and type in Morbid Obesity
surgery. If no one is there check back. All in WLS are welcome.

IN RESPONSE TO NOT EVER FINDING ANYONE IN THE CHAT ROOM - I TOO AM HAVING
TROUBLE. ONCE I GOT TO A SCREEN THAT SAID I HAVE NO FRIENDS LISTED IN THE
CHAT ROOM BUT I CAN'T FIND THAT SCREEN AGAIN AND I DON'T KNOW WHO TO LIST
IF I COULD FIND IT.

I'm on AOL and was never able to access the chat room. It would take me
into an empty room, even when I knew people were in there. I also have
Netscape, so I decided to try going that route, and "success," no
more problems! You can download Netscape for free, and it also seems to
run a lot faster than AOL.
