Question:
Does anyone have a punch recipe I can use or sugar cookie recipe for holidays

I am 9weeks post op and getting ready for the holidays. My family have been so supportive of my wls. But, we tradiotionally have punch Christmas Eve and me and my grandmother make cookies for Santa. I would love some recipes for either. I really don't want to brake tradiotion especially since I have a 22month old son who is really enjoying the holidays.    — Vanessa H. Hawaian Fruit Punch is available at Wal-mart (don't know about other places) sweetened with Splenda! I like this mixed 50/50 with diet 7-up and I add some sliced oranges for decoration. Everyone has loved it so far! Hmm a little vodka in it is good too :>)

For Christmas I'm going to try an offshoot of what I did for Halloween. I bought diet mountain dew in the 2L bottles and mixed it with high pulp frozen OJ and then threw in a can of diet code red mountain dew to heighten the orange color. The OJ acted like an ice in keeping the punch cool floating there but with high pulp OJ it was really "fuzzy" by the end of the punch - worked great to have some texture for Halloween though. For Christmas I'm going to try Diet Code Red mixed with regular (not high pulp) frozen OJ. It is very hard to come up with sugar free alternatives when our traditions are clad in fat filled, sugar filled foods. Traditionally my family would make an eggless eggnog which involves an icecream base and everything considered I honestly don't think I could duplicate it with artificial sweetners or sweetened products. Hopefully the new things we try will take hold. BTW be sure to try diabetic web pages for more ideas. I imagine I'll be doing so myself too! Good luck!

For punch, I would make "normal" Kool-Aid punch with Splenda; it is great! Then add some flattened Diet 7-Up or Sprite and orange slices.

We've been drinking holiday punch for years and I just adapted it since I had surgery:<p> HOLIDAY PUNCH<p> 1 large can of pineapple juice (48 oz.)<p> 1 large can of orange juice (48 oz.) or 48 oz. orange juice<p> 1 pkg. unsweetened red Kool-aid (cherry, strawberry, or tropical punch flavor<p> 1 C. Splenda or Fructose<p> 1 quart of water (32 oz.)<p> 1-2 Liters of diet Vernor's Ginger Ale<p> Make sure all of your ingredients are chilled (including the water). In a 2 qt. pitcher, mix the package of Kool-Aid, Splenda or Fructose, and 1 qt. of water -- this will be a very sweet Kool-Aid.<p> In a large punch-bowl, mix pineapple juice, orange, juice, and Kool-Aid. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Just before serving, add 1-2 liters of Diet Vernor's GingerAle (to your taste) -- if you add it way before serving, it will go flat. For those who can have sugar, you can add orange sherbet to the punch bowl. You can also freeze a 1/2 recipe (without the Vernor's) to use as ice in the punch. You can freeze it in regular ice-cube trays or small butter containers and put some raspberries or strawberries in it to make it pretty.<p> As for the cookies, I have recipes for soft old-fashioned peanut butter cookies, soft oatmeal raisin cookies, and soft sugar cookies. All the recipes are in my book, which you can get by clicking on my profile or going to the website www.freewebs.com/recipes-after-rny. In the meantime, here's the sugar cookie recipe:<p> SOFT SUGAR COOKIES<p> 3 C. all-purpose flour<p> 1-1/2 C. turbinado sugar<p> 1 tsp. baking powder<p> 1 C. softened butter or margarine (2 sticks)<p> 2 eggs<p> 1 tsp. vanilla extract<p> 1/2 tsp. salt<p> Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat softened (room temperature - not melted) butter or margarine until fluffy/creamy. Add turbinado sugar and beat well. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Make 1" balls and place 2" apart on cookie sheet and flatten slightly. Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on how soft you like them. If you like them soft, take them out when they are still mushy in the center. Transfer to wire racks to cool. You can also add grain-sweetened chocolate chips, nuts, or put in a thumbprint in the center and add 100% fruit jam/spread.<p>
