Question:
I know we Dump after surgery from sugar, but when is it Diabeties?

I Dump alot now, even after regular meals, so I have been testing my Sugar a few times a day and before meals I range from 79-90 and after meal (sugary or not) I range from 145-180. I never had problems with Sugar, so im wondering is this just normal now for the rest of my life and do I just ignore it or should I call my Doctor? I'm so sleepy all the time, I take like 3 naps a day and sleep all night(this just started about 2mo ago), Yes thyroids good, sleep apnea gone and all blood work perfect. Thanks for the advice :o)    — Sandy M. (posted on October 9, 2003)

Dumping and diabetes are two completely different and unrelated conditions. Dumping is the result of sugar "dumping" into the small intestine before it has a chance to be digested in the normal stomach. The syndrome of symptoms is your body's reaction to this event that your intestines are not prepared for. Diabetes is a serious disease related to how your body uses insulin, which results in there being too much sugar circulated in the blood (and a myriad of other serious medical conditions). The blood sugar levels that you describe are within the normal range for a non-diabetic person. If you are concerned, you should of course seek medical advice, but it doesn't look like you have anything to worry about.

I hate to disagree but our surgeons nurse said dumping is the wild swing in blood sugars. If you werent diabetic pre op I wouldnt worry too much but ask your docs to do a long term bloods sugar test just to be sure. HA1C

I was really sleepy and found out my B-12levels were low. Are you using a sublingual B-12?
