Question:
fluid built up in the old stomach

i am 23 days postop open rny trans, down 23lbs. 3 days ago i started feeling sick all the time after eating an egg. i thought that maybe something was stuck so i called the doctor. he did an upper GI and saw that my new pouch was perfect, but that the old stomach (i'm trans) was filled with fluid. because it was filled with fluid it was pushing on my new pouch and causing me to feel sick. anybody else have this and what did they do for it?    — franbvan (posted on September 13, 2003)

I had the same problem. my doc put a new gtube in the old stomach and let it drain no problems since.

Hi Fran, I had the same thing I was home for a week and a half after surgery, then one morning woke up SO sick I couldnt eat nothing drink, I couldnt even swallow my own spit! I got rushed to the Hospital and had to stay for 6 uneventful days with all kinds of tests, the G-tube draining, then after that I had to be fed threw the G-tube so I could get my strength back, I hope no one ever has to endure that. I mean I was really sick. I thought I was gonna die.They ran a upper-GI on me then the scpoe down my pouch, it was unbeleivable. Well Iam 5 weeks and 2 days pr-op and 50lbs lighter. Good Luck to you.
