Question:
Has anyone experienced this?

Has anyone had this happen to them? Post Op 5 1/2 months out, my tongue feels like I burnt it with hot food. It has been like this since then. Spicey food really plays a number on it. lol I didn't burn my tongue with hot food. I asked my surgeon at my 6 month check up and she said she had never heard of this before, but thought maybe it was a lack of Vitamin B-6. I've been on B-6 for 18 days and still feels the same. Needless to say, makes most foods un appealing, but other than that it does not bother me. Just curious, if anyone else has experienced this. Lap RNY...2/11/03... -90 pounds/62 inches .... 250/160/140 Thanks!!!!    — Hazel S. (posted on August 29, 2003)

Hi Hazel: Congratulations on your weight loss. You've done really well! I haven't heard of anyone experiencing something like a burnt tongue sensation before, but I thought I'd say maybe it's been a blessing that things don't taste good to you? Hope you can get to the root of why it happened though, just for your own peace of mind. Continued success to you. Sherry

Post op I had thrush on my tongue and that is kind of like what the sensation was...that was caused from antibiotics given in the hospital. I was given Nystatin to treat it and it went away in about a week.

Yes, definitely get this checked out by your PCP, it sounds like some kind of infection. Another possibility is a vitamin deficiency. Call your doctor! Good luck!
