Question:
When can you eat rice?

I had my surgery on 7/16/2002 and would like to know if it is okay to eat rice. I would like to eat stuffed peppers and rice with beef tips.    — Loretta J. (posted on August 25, 2003)

Unless your surgeons diet forbids it, you could have it now. Just be real careful, though as rice expands in the tummy and it only takes a little bit to do so. I've had stuffed peppers many times, but only use a little rice as it fills me very fast. I wouldn't have any more than a tablespoon at first to see how you handle it.

My surgeon allowed me to have rice after my 10 week check-up but only if it was very well cooked and then only a small amount. Rice can swell and cause a blockage. I had some after 8 months in crawfish etouffe from Popeye's - the sauce had spilled off it and I got very ill. I threw up for a week, ended up in the hospital dehydrated. So be careful with it.

Hi Loretta I love my rice, and i was a rice eater pre-op and i could eat mounds of it, but now that im post-op i eat only about 3 tablespoons of rice. I try not to eat alot of it because it expands and it is considered a bad carb, and im trying to stay away, but i love rice. Just eat a small portion of it and there is nothing wrong with that. Like the other answer was, try 1 tablespoon to see how u feel. Good luck 260/190/160

I've been eating rice as part of stuffed peppers for several months now, without difficulty. I have also done the same with rice from the Chinese restaurant in very small amounts which has also been ok. I have recently started eating California rolls-sushi and I find that this has to be chewed really well, or it seems to hit my pouch a little hard, but with no long term difficulty. I don't do it too often because I prefer to focus more on the protein, fruits and veggies.
