My doctor does a test for it AFTER approval, then knocks it out with antibacterials before surgery...

Hi, I had an H. Pyloric test before surgery . The doc told me that if it were positive I would have to be treated for it before surgery but that it would not affect the decision to do the surgery.

***Darla King*** My lab worked test positive for H-pylori also. It has delayed my surgery date. I have to take antibiotics for 14 days. Its to my understanding that you should take 2 types of antibiotics and an antiacid. And if you don't you are wasting your time b/c one isn't as effective as all three together. The antacid kills the h-pylori bacteria. The medicine is very costly, but because I asked the pharmacist, he recommended the PREVPAC. It was covered by my insurance and I paid just the co-pay for one prescription instead of 3. PREVAC consist of lansoprazole, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin. After I finish the meds, I will receive a surgery date. One more thing, the pharm. said that in 90% of the cases the bacteria is eradicated. Hope this helps.
