Question:
has anyone ever

laid down for the night only to be awaken by small amount of bitter liqiud coming up and coughing, well chocking. it tastes very nasty its very bitter and even after brushing my teeth and tonge the taste is still in my throat burning.anyone? by the way it was orange in color i did have a small amount of orange soda earier on but why does this happen i remember once a while back i drank a banana quick and only vomited the yellow dye not the milk itself i found that very wierd rny 2/26/02 -87lbs    — Latisha M. Latisha, it sounds like to me that you are having acid reflux. Your doctor can give you medicine to help with the regurtation/burning and it really helps, or you could try some OTC pepsid or tagament especially before bedtime. I suffered with this for years and have not taken any medicine for it since the day of surgery. Also if you can you may want to elevate your bed somewhat, that helps also. Good Luck!

It sounds like bile to me. It's a side effect of GERD, or reflux, and it is VERY unpleasant. If you are still pre-op, take an antacid before you go to bed, but be sure to see your doctor. Over time, GERD is very hard on your esophogus.

thank you for the fast response i am post op almost 8 months and when i left the hospital the doc gave me previcid would that help i still have a few capsules left believe it or not.but once again thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a nursing student and i read about this but it's usually greenish in color but the orange could have come from the soda but it sounds and the taste described sounds like bile one thing i read is to place bricks under the head of your bed or books. Also let your Dr. know it's extremely erosive and know to cause other problems.

Sounds like Bile to me too...I had my gallbladder out a few years ago, and haven't had my RNY yet, but I know when I throw up NOW I always have Bile in there.. but mine is bright floresent yellow... and yours could be orange because it might be tinged with blood from your surgery... or like you said the orange soda...
