Question:
Help! My libido is almost non-existent! Anyone have suggestions?

This is becoming a big issue, but since my surgery back in March, my libido has dwindled down to almost nothing. It is very disappointing, and I have a hard time believing that I can just pop a pill and my libido will be back. Any thoughts or suggestions?    — LaRayne H. (posted on September 1, 2002)

I don't know if you are taking birth control, but for me the pill kills my libido. I noticed that before surgery, then I went off the pill for surgery and my libido came back. I still don't know what to do about it because I am afraid of getting pregnant. If you use birth control, maybe try switching kinds.

I too have had the same problem. Several things I've learned from various Dr. (PCP, surgeon and OB-GYN). First your body is in starvation mode and the last thing it needs to do at this time is procreate so thus the libido is turned off. Second have your thyroid checked. If your levels are off, that can cause low libido. Third, check to make sure that this is not a side-effect (no matter how infrequent) of ANY medication that you are on. I had been on Prozac since my son was born for anxiety and mood swings. My Dr. thinks that may be my cause so I've been changed to Wellbutrin. No changes yet BUT it can take 4-6 weeks to notice a difference so my DH and I are hopefull. Good Luck to you!

I think that you all need your hormone levels checked by an endrconologist<sp>. Mine were all screwed up and now the DR & I am trying to get them in the normal ranges. Not only do hormones affect the way you loose and gain weight they also effect your brain and psyce. Good Lux

I am nearing my 10 month post op anniversary, and mine is still non existant. My doctors have tried me on 3 creams, hormones, paxil, viagra (yes Viagra), and testosterone injections, all to no avail. I feel so sorry for my DH, but it just isn't there for me:( If you figure anything out be sure and post it so we will all know:)
